I found this column on ESPN.com this week. It seems like every time I or another NBA fan starts an NBA thread onthis board or the old site, people can't just allow an NBA conversation to take place without interjecting their own reasons for not liking the league, and most are filled with such comments. I thought this was an interesting column that discredits a lot of those myths.

It's not just the NBA, it's basketball in general that people blast for being worse than it was years ago. (But I agree that the NBA gets draws a lot of criticism.) And so much of that criticism, as Hruby says, is unwarranted. I don't agree with the "they can't shoot anymore" theory. What's happened is that defense have become stifling. Much more physical, much more agressive. Weight lifting and raw freakish athleticism have changed the game.
I watch basketball from 15 years ago and back, and it's not the same game. The scores are high, the flow of the game is (much more) smooth, but to me it's an ugly game. Under the standards that players in the last decade have set, those old games are just atrocious to watch even though the scores were about 15-20 points higher on average.

the thing i hear most is that pro teams are too good. the only time i hear something about they dont play D is when someone tries to excuse the reasons why pitino sucked as a nba coach.....
