Clay County sophomore QB Zach Lewis completed 22 of 28 passes for a school-record 512 yards and six TDs against Evarts last week. He also ran for a score, and kicked seven extra points. Lewis' performance was no surprise to Coach Aaron Stepp, who watched Lewis throw for 3,171 yards as a freshman, including 430 against Ashland in the playoffs. "He makes my job pretty easy," Stepp said. "He's one of those intelligent, talented kids who give you a look that says, 'I got it, Coach. Don't worry about it.' " But Stepp said Lewis knows he couldn't shine without a veteran line that includes Zach Smith, Matthew Smith and Leighton Napier, and a receiving corps led by Phillip Dunn, Matt Dobbs and Dustin Bullock. Lewis has a long way to go, but if he matches his freshman total over the next three years, he would eclipse Tim Couch's state record of 12,167 passing yards.
