Yeah, I'm disappointed. $43for a ticket, 10 to park and about 7 gallons of gas, wow! I expected a better performance than that. HOWEVER.... there weresome good efforts. Obviously we know about old reliables, Burton, Woodyard, etc. Guys that were question marks before the game that came through in my opinion were: Micah Johnson, Tim Masthay, Dicky Lyons, and Trevard Lindley. And I almost forgot David Jones. On one play he BURNED a defender, but unfortunately the pass was underthrown. Somebody else, add some positives as well.

Well Sambo - you're merely talking about the few positives is a positive to me. We already have the "fire the bums" crowd in full force and I notice I'm the first to reply to your thread. (May be the only one.)
I agree with your post. I think we have some things we can build on. Hopefully, these guys will stay away from the internet and get their chins up.

I agree with you. There were definitely some positives to the game. Tim Masthay improved tremendously from last year and Keenan Burton did exceptionally well. The season isn't over yet.

How about Andre beating Brohm in both yards per attempt (9.2 to 8.4) and yards per completion (23.8 to 13.4)? Of course, if you take away the 3 big hits (73 and 42 to Burton and 80 to Lyons), there wasn't much left...

Not really a play-related positive, but Keenan Burton showed his class when ESPN showed a quick clip of him lifting up a prayer for Michael Bush after he got hurt.
I keep telling myself, "We lost by 31 points to the #13 team in the nation. It's not like we got spanked by Western Montana State or something." Hopefully this game will be good for learning from mistakes and fine-tuning whatever needs to be fine-tuned.

I thought that Micah Johnson looked like a Freshman. There were times that he got blown so far off the ball by UL's center that he should have needed a ticket to get back in the game. Other times he was confused and slow to react to the ball. No doubt that he will be very good once he makes the adjustmentto the college level. He is not there yet.

About the only positives I saw was that Andre Woodson looked a lot better and made fewer mistakes. And Burton may have a breakout year.

You know, I don't think the corners did that bad. Brohm did have to take time to throw the ball when he did. Our Linebackers looked lost and missed a ton of assignments. And I thought that would be our strength. Also, I gotta say I think Woodson did well, all things considered. He didn't give up. I hope this was just a bad game. We will know better next week and depending on how they do against Ole Miss. That running back is pretty good. But I must say, I am discouraged right now. I HATE losing to Louisville.

Kennan Burton performed about as wel as I've ever seen a Kentucky football player perform.
Loved the leadership shown by Woodson. He could have quit in the first quarter, but he stayed wtih it and was really working his butt off, even when the game was out of hand late. He looked like a much more mature quarterback than I've seen the last two years.
I really, truly think our passing game showed flourishes of being good enough to win those 6 games. You have to think that the O-line's going to get better, and we all know Little and Dixon can do things if they get any help at all up front.
Our defense, OTOH, was an absolute disgrace.I don't think it's fair to judge Joker Phillips' performance negatively; he was hamstrung by Archer after the firstdarn Louisville possession. :thumbdown

There weren't any quotes from UK players after the game saying they came out flat because they had been overconfident going into the game.

UK will still sell more tickets than UL next game.

The only positive I can come up with is that I missed seeing the first half. Unfortunatley I saw the 2nd half. What I said about Rich Brooks and his regime after the first game he coached here is still proving true. That is that this is Bill Curry part two. Only this may be worse. :(

Since the game has been moved back in the schedule, it will be more than a year before UL beats us again.
See it's easy to think positively. :thumbup
Maybe now I can gets me summa dat good Karma?

Now Mark, you should know that you wouldn't be the only one. :cool:Actually, Sam's thread was not here yesterday afternoon when I came to the forum, but I was going to start a thread about positives myself (as I stated)until I saw that BOURBON TOWN CAT FAN, I believe it was, had already posted about the positives, andsome positivesabout this UK football teamwere indeedvisible Sunday night (although, admittedly, not as easy to find).
On that thread or another one, I, too, had mentioned David Jones' name, Sam. He had impressively beaten his defender, but, unfortunately, Woodson underthrew the ball, as you said. Also, a connection with Michael Strickland barely missed. I certainly saw potential in our passing game.
I had also posted saying that I felt the cornerbacks did better than I had expected, and Lindley, in particular, deserved mention. Who would have ever thought that UK would have been the team with the long touchdown passes in that game!
Burton was tremendous. Woodyard had seventeen tackles (and, interestingly, apologized to the team for the defense's performance). Masthay deserves A LOT of praise from UK fans today (and especially since we had previously doubted him).
In regard to the comment about the players, I so agree. I have "talked" with one UK player, and I could tell that he was down. Yet, he said the players are going to keep their heads up, study film, and get better--that there is no other choice.
As I see it, we fans, like the players, should NOT be giving up after ONE game. As I repeatedly posted last night, we surely expect the players not to give up and "quit." I expect the same of ourselves.
I guess I'm wasting my time commenting about the negativity on one of the few threads labeled for positive thoughts, which is certainly what any players need to read to help them keep their chins up. I didthat on the one positive thread last night, obviously to no avail. It surely seems to me that everyone fully realizes the many negatives about our performance, fans, coaches, and players, as they are being discussed relentlessly. As I see it, it is unfair to the players and not constructive to the football program to ignoreany positives. Disappointing. :(
