i saw a ranking of the top 50 college coaches and he ranked like 19th or something... i read somewhere where he called 12 straight pass plays, he is young, and built tulsa... i commented about him.... he is definitely someone u could look at.

Supposedly Kragthorpe is the guy Jurich had "waiting in the wings" if Petrino had bolted to LSU, Florida, etc.

He grew up around the BYU program (dad coached there) so he had learned a great deal about the BYU offense but his offenses can run the ball pretty effectively as well (over 150 yards per game I think). I haven't seen Tulsa on TV so I am not sure how close his offense resembles the Lavell offense at BYU as well as his defense. No idea what type of defense he runs there. They are OK there it appears. From the articles I read, he has done pretty good and Tulsa administration knew what they were doing when they signed him to an extension to 2011 and earmarked new stadium improvements (skyboxes, etc.).

There is something of a connection between Kragthorpe and Rich Brooks. Coach Brooks is a graduate of Oregon State and coached at rival Oregon from 1977-1994. Dave Kragthorpe (father of Steve) was the head coach at Oregon State from 1985-1990 and Steve was on his dad's staff as a grad assistant in 1988-89. Brooks and Kragthorpe coached against each other every year.

Of course, Mitch Barnhart was the AD at Oregon State before coming to UK so he would know all about the Kragthorpes.

Yep. He's an up and comer and makes things happen on offense, which you need when you're at a roster disadvantage. He took a Tulsa team that was 1-10 and 1-11 in 2001 and 2002 and took them to a bowl game in 2003, averaging 32.5 points per game compared to 17.4 and 19.4 in the two years prior. Last year they were 9-4, all losses were to bowl teams, and they won the Liberty Bowl. The year in between wasn't nearly as good though.

Cauvey Jackson of Louisville PRP starts at WR for that Tulsa team. He was not considered worthy of a scholarship or even much recruitment by either UK or UL. Kragthorpe is doing well with a roster that is not very impressive.
