Last night appeared to be the coming out party for the young man who's lived not only in the shadow of his father, but also in the shadow of the previous #12, Derek Abney. Dicky has overcome a lot to get back on the team, and it was electrifying to see the plays he made last night.

His success will keep defenses honest this season, not just overloading Keenan on the other WR side.

Go Big Blue!

Lyons came from out-of-bounds to make the catch that he took in for an 80 yard TD. On TV, you cannot tell whether he was knocked out of bounds, but he clearly was running in from out-of-bounds when he caught the ball.

Thanks, Brian. 75% of the posts so far have been gloom and doom. I'm glad to see someone else realized this. Thanks for mentioning it.

Yes, thanks, Brian. Any positives should be mentioned, in my opinion, and Dicky Lyons, Jr.'s play was indeed a positive. :)

I must have missed that.

Either way, I think he is a solid reciever and should be a useful player this season, especially since everyone knows about Burton and are more threatened by him. Hopefully that will free up Lyons and Tamme for some solid gains down the field.

Ref's hat was thrown off and I thought that meant he was pushed and still eligible.

What were the previous positives? Thanks.

They can be counted on the fingers of a one armed paper hanger.

I did not see the ref and would not have noticed, because I did not know that rule.

I assumed, because the ref was right in the area, that he was pushed out of bounds. Both angles shown, however, did not reveal one way or the other.

The only thing I know for sure is that he was coming in from out of bounds when he caught the ball.

Please, don't get me wrong, I was thrilled with Lyons play on Sunday and hope he gains more confidence and works even harder because of it.

A TD for every catch this year is quite a stat!!!

I read in a Louisville article in the CJ that Lyons had been FORCED out of bounds before coming back in, so that settles it, I guess. :)

Just watched it again. The ref is standing right there and throws his hat as Lyons is making the catch.

Okay, what's the rule. On another site they are informing that the refs hat on the ground signified that Lyons was ineligible. Which is is?

I'm pretty sure that is the correct rule. Hat thrown = inelegibility. My guess as to what happened is that the refs got together after the play, and one with a better angle/view overturned the other's opinion.

That is reasonable if the hat thrower saw Lyons come in from out of bounds and another saw him get forced out.

So, the hat thrown says nothing to the defense?
