Got this from a poster on another board.

Sorry, no link.

I'm not surprised to read that. It seems that Braxton Kelley missed assignments and did not perform up to expectations. I happen to feel for the young man, though, as he was just returning from that terrible injury last season, after having performed so well as a freshman starting middle linebacker.

Of course, it is a good thing that we have depth this season. Players will be moved out of the starting lineup when they are not performing up to expectations. Too, his moving out of the lineup does not mean that he cannot move himself back into the lineup.

At the same time I am happy for Micah Johnson. He has a world of potential. He will obviously be learning on the job, though. I also read that he often performed like a freshman Sunday, missing many assignments, etc. Let's just hope both young men improve their performances during the season.

I figured he's be out there at the first defensive snap, I just didn't know if it would be as a MLB or an OLB. He looked impressive to me for a fresh.

I would have to say that Kelley will be back in there soon. He probably hasn't gotten up to speed just yet and needs just a bit more of a learning curve to get his legs under him and his confidence back up. Thankfully, depth can actually be seen at this position.

Kelly played like a dog on Sunday. Hopefully that was just some rust and he will be back to his impressive self soon.

I think the Johnson start is more of a message sender than anything, but I do think before all is said and done after next week, you will likely see those two taking about an equal number of snaps.

On Brooks' show tonight he indicated that Micah had almost as many snaps as Kelly on Sunday. A differential of only 2 or 3.

On the Cats' Pause show Matt May was saying that there had been earlier talk at camp that Kelley had not fully recovered mentally from his injury (which often happens with football players who suffer a serious injury), that there had been some concern expressed about that. That uncertainty about getting out there and having a lot of physical contact again may well have influenced Kelley's game in a negative way. That is a shame.
