IMO it gets forgottten, but lets remember when Brooks was hired, we had already had heard tons of other names linked to the job, some legit, some probably not. lets face it, Morris knew there was a hard road ahead, and that could not have hurt his choice to leave. I'm not sure MB did a good job with the search, but come on, you can't make a guy take a job. I think it got late in the game, and in MB's eyes Brooks was the best guy, and most known commodity. Other than the first year, where with some breaks, MAYBE that team could have won six, instead of the four they won, nobody could have expected too much in the way of wins the last few years. Under review, I think this probably will be Brooks last year, and in my eyes he has done what was hoped for. This job is a hell of a lot more attractive that when Brooks got it. Brooks has kept the program out of any kind of NCAA trouble as far as anyone knows. The next person to coach the UK football team will inherit a full amount of schollys, and IMO some talent on the roster. I think the future can be bright with the two Qbs' who are freshman right now. I think the stage is set for Mitch to hit that football hire home run in the next year or two.

Well, Mackcat, I don't know that I agree with that word for word, but it IS one of the more fair assessments of Coach Brooks tenure that I've read. Good post.:thumbup

I think even people that don't agree with all of it can regard that as a great, fair handed post.

Other wins that were fairly expected in the past few years were the ones we dropped to Indiana, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Ohio U., all pretty darn bad teams.

And the job is more attractive now for at least three reasons: there's nowhere to go but up, expectations will be low, and the program is clean and has kept out of trouble.

I'm not a fan of Brooks right now, but no one can take away - or discount - the fact that he's kept the program out of trouble during his tenure. For all the knocks on the guy, that postive and important fact is often understated IMO.

Mitch will have an opportunity soon to bring in a hungry coach who can hit the ground running. I don't want a retread this time. I don't want someone who was at another school and bailed out for the pros or got run out of town because he violated rules.

Somewhere out there a young man with a brilliant football mind and a work ethic to match is waiting for a job like UK. We need to find him and put him on notice we may want to talk to him soon.

I hope Mitch has a list and is checking it twice.
