I wonder if he has anything left in the tank to latch on with another team?

I tend to wish the same, patpat4three. If I were only able to pick one all-time favorite player, I would probably pick Derek Anderson. I would prefer to make it a tie between Anderson and Kenny Walker, but how Derek dealt so well with so much adversity AND that smile I so loved would break the tie, IF I were forced to do so. :)

Anyway, it hurt me to watchDerek play in the playoffs, as he was not even a shadow of the great player he had been. That he won the NBA championship I had so wanted him to get was enough for me. I honestly hope he chooses to go out with that championship, "on a high note." :)

Of course, I don't guess we ever know, for certain, that he can't become healthy again and regain his form. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Derek Anderson is one of the best players we've had in the past 15 years. It was tough to see him struggle with health issues the past couple of years. For a time he was one of the most explosive multi-talented 2 guards in the league. I'm very happy for DA that he won a title with Miami and I wish him well down the road.

Poodoo, he's my all time favorite without question. The only NBA game I ever saw was going to Indy and seeing the Spurs play (I believe his last year with them) with CurlyCat.

He's done a lot with DA foundation, and I hope that he makes whatever decision about his career that will make him happy. I too hated to see him not playing very much.

Good to see you here, CatfanShan. Too, you are so right about what he has done with the DA foundation. Also, like you, I hope he "makes whatever decision about his career that will make him happy."

We have had the NBA League Pass for years.I watched Derekplay almost every game on the Cavaliers, the Clippers, the Spurs, and part ofhis gameswith Portland.I was so disappointed when the Spurs barely missed their chance at a championship when Derek was there. That's why I was so happy that he was on the Heat roster last year and at least gotthat NBA championship to go alongwith his collegiate one. Too, as RaleighCat said, hehad too many injury and health issues in the NBA. Otherwise, he wouldhave been a star,I really feel. May he be happy!

Is it wrong I still wish Pitino would have played him in the championship in 97?

It sure did make for a rotten weekend in Indy. I remember sitting in the hotel between games thinking how much more fun NYC had been the year before.

As much as I blame Pitino for not using DA to get the W, I also have to share some of the blame. In '96, I smoked a lucky cigar on the street corner in Manhattan after the semifinal victory. In '97 I thought about doing it, but since our hotel was not downtown, I felt a little strange and did not repeat my ritual. In '98 I learned my lesson and brought one to San Antonio and secured the victory for all of us! (and you guys thought it was Shep who should have been MVP, where were the props for MC?)

Next time we make it back to the FF, I will be there again!

Right or wrong, I've never blamed Pitino for not playing DA that night. Selfishly, I would have loved to have seen him play. That had to have been a tough call to make. Not winning a championship vs. ruining a player's basketball career (potentially)...whew, decisions like that are why some guys make the big bucks.

Knowing what I know now, I place the entire blame of that loss squarely on Mountain Cat's shoulders. He should've known better. I knew something didn't feel right that night. ;)

Anybody else find it humorous that the title of this thread begins with the words "heat wa(i)ve"?

Not if he was one of our recruiters, but I know what you are saying. He is a pitino man and also from the ville. He will always be one of my favorite players along with about 100 or so others. What a great basketball player.
