I ran into this kid at Speedway a couple of years ago. He had a Danville Basketball shirt on, and I asked him if he played for the Admirals. He said no, so I asked him if he'd already graduated. He said, "No, I go to Bate (Middle School)." He was bigger than me then, and I'm not small. ;)

I'm happy for this kid. If he continues to develop and become more polished, he could really be something.

So is he enrolling in January? :ggrin:

Sounds like we wanted to be the first to offer him. Hopefully he remembers that. I have to admit that the sound of a 6'5, athletics reciever could be a very big addition to the team.

Another Urrutia, perhaps?

He's a great big strong 6'5" kid right now, but he's pretty raw. With the right motivation (and an early D-1 offer might do the trick) he could be nearly impossible to handle two years from now.

:thumbupI'd have to think that Coach Harp will get the most out of this kid. Since he plays for an area team, I'll hopefully get to see him in person a few times over the next couple of years.

I saw him against Southwestern and he's definitely got talent (and size). I wasn't too impressed by his pro-style end zone dive on a touchdown with no defenders within 20 yards of him. Later I asked a guy I know who's a real Danville fan and keeps up with the program if that was just youthful exuberance or the sign of a potential attitude problem. He sort of hedged his answer a bit so it kind of made me suspect that there may be something there. I'm not trying to come down on the young man, after all he's only a sophomore, but I am adopting a wait and see attitude.

Everyone who at 15 years old was basically a walking attitude problem please raise you hand :thumbupI certainly qualified.

Yeah, seriously, stop and think how young 15 really is. Then imagine already walking around looking like a full grown man by the time you're 12.

The only difference between Leonard Macon and other 15 year olds is that people are actually paying attention to how Macon acts.

Regardless, a wait and see attitude would seem to be the best course of action to take for any high school sophomore.

Well, I was a starter on my varsity team as a freshman and wouldn't have dreamed of calling attention to myself with a stunt like that. But, that was a LONG time ago and things were a lot different then. These kids see all the woofing and posing every time they watch a game on tv so they probably think that's how they're supposed to act.

I agree that 15 is awfully young but I've seen a lot of gifted athletes in my time who got a free pass due to their athletic ability, especially in a small town. Being told how great you are from the time you're in middle school seems to have an effect on a lot of guys.

Of course he's got one of the best coaches in the state in Sam Harp to keep him grounded.

Jacob Tamme's younger brother does a series of fist pumps when he scores a touchdown.

It looks ridiculous and needs(needed) to stop, but I won't let it affect my over-all view of him too much.

Good for you, you're certainly open minded.

Well, I find it interesting that you were banned. I wonder why, your attitude?

Anyway, Macon was one of the players Sam Harp dismissed from the team a couple of weeks ago the day before the state semifinal game. I also have heard rumours (from very credible sources) that keeping him eligible is an incredibly difficult task. I would place bets that we'll never see him in a UK uniform.

If he entertains like Chad Johnson that's super. Chad Johnson is a great player and media hound.

I hope he comes from a UK family.
