I so respect Bill Curry, the man. So, personally, I'm glad he is receiving the award recognizing his service.

the award for whos services were for the advancement of the best interest in football
This sounds like an award that Curry and Uzelac should have been given, when the finally left UK.

Actually, it was given because in "the best interest in football",Curry quit coaching.

What have any of us here done or experienced that puts us even on the same page as Bill Curry? Among other things, he is also a father - and therefore could not let Trent's parents see the horrible mess on the front porch......
When he arrived at the scene shortly after the crime, Curry spotted blood, "a lot of blood," left behind where DiGiuro's lifeless body had been. Several players were standing around the house in shock. Curry said to them, "Let's clean this up." Then he took a bucket and brush and, with the help of some players, scoured the bloody porch clean.
"I was in shock, too," Curry says. "I just knew I couldn't leave that there."
Curry later brought in grief counselors to help his team. Many players were profoundly affected, including those who were at the house for DiGiuro's 21st birthday party when the shooting occurred.
"If you're an athletic director and you have that kind of tragedy, you thank God that you've got Bill Curry as your coach," Athletic Director C.M. Newton says. "He's got a lot of toughness about him, and he's also got real sensitivity."
This award, and football itself, is about so much more than wins and losses. It's about class. It's about character. It's about people. It's about things obviously foreign to some here, including the current coach.

There are many so called "average" people who have been thrust into traumatic, dangerous, or disasterous situations and have been labeled "heroic" for their actions. I am sorry if I offend anyone with this post, but I didn't see anything that Curry did that set him apart from any other coach or person, in that situation.
As for coaching which was what Curry was brought to UK for, he was a program administrator who failed to take his assistants with him. That was the beginiing of his demise andthe start of the journey that led to Uzelac as his O/C.

Okay, so Uzelac was a mistake. Bill Curry gave us some good years (which some of you forget about) and some bad years (which same seem to obsess on). He's a class act - he did a pretty good job for us and more than a pretty good job for Georgia Tech and Alabama.
Get over it. Let it rest.

Bill Curry was a stand up man, he may have had his issues coaching at UK, but never take what he has done as a person and a coach away from him. UK fans take things too far some times, like ridiculing him because of some bad decisions he may have made. Uzelac at the time was a good pick up, sure, in hindsight he turned out to be a bad one, but who knew at the time? Are his bad decisions justification for the UK fans who threatened his wife's life?
I admit, I'm a bit touchy when it comes to Bill Curry and people bashing him, but more people treat him likea dog and kick him and then turn around and praise Mumme for bringing us more excitement and bowl games (even though he cheated to do it). How bout we all just sit back and say that Bill Curry was a hell of a man who did the right thing, may not have had the best results, but did the right thing.
