In 10 minutes and 44 seconds last night, the top-ranked St. Xavier High School football team not only lost its annual game with archrival Trinity but also saw star running back Victor Anderson go down with what initially was feared to be a broken leg.
Though X-rays were negative, the front-runner for Mr. Football faces the possibility of being sidelined with a bruise or high ankle sprain.
With Trinity leading 10-0 at 8:26 p.m., the game was suspended when a torrential downpour and lightning rolled into the area. Both teams and more than 30,000 fans were cleared from Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
The game finally was called at 10:10, and officials from both schools agreed it would be a no-contest.
