Comparing college basketball and college football is idiotic.
They are so dissimilar that they shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath.
There isn't such a thing as a "basketball school" anymore. College basketball has become so even that anybody can win.
It's a much rougher slog to get good in college football; however, to suggest that you have to be a "football school" to do that is silly. Look at Louisville. Look at Virginia Tech. Look at Maryland. West Virginia. Kansas State. Oregon. All schools that went from rock bottom to elite status.
The fan adoration is there for Kentucky. The money is there. All it's going to take is vision and consistency of leadership. I'd like to think Rich Brooks and his staff have started the ball rolling.

I think the article hits the nail right on the head.
Kentucky is a Basketball school that would love to have a football tradition. I have been in the 'watercooler' where the conversation starts to wander about basketball recruits at halftime. When I make mention that it is football season - I get chastised. Living in Georgia where football is king - then going to UK where Basketball is king - there is no comparison.
Georgia is a football school - UK a basketball school.
End of discussion.

I have to think that the current administration is doing what it can to change that.

Like UF will always be a football school?
The Gators success in basketball disproves this opinion.

"There is a football audience," said UK coach Rich Brooks. "If we have anything close to the success the basketball team has, this place will go bonkers for football."
Not a lot of people outside of Kentucky know this about UK football. The fans are there to fill the stadium and then some, if UK could put the product on the field. I would bet that no other losing program in the country can demonstrate the fan support that UK demonstrates.

The challenges set forth in the article are accurate. The conclusion that UK cannot succeed in football is a loser mentality that will never lead to a successful football program.

I wouldn't respond to this if it wasn't on top already.
I HATE this attitude. UF has had basketball championships and MNCs in the past decade. Why is UF so much better than we are so that they can have both? I'd hang that writer up a tree so fast if I could get my hands on him.

The past does not always dictate the future...a fact for which I'm personally thankful...so I think to say that any school will always be only a "basketball school" or a "football school" is a little short sighted. It could be true that UK remains a mediocre football program for a long time to come (I hope not but it's always possible)...but then again you never know just what is possible on any given day.
