Central Michigan game, should be a sell out, and a loud crowd. The team cannot have a let down, have to have this one to keep things pushing ahead. A loss would wipe away a lot of current positive vibes.

It won't sell out, it's central michigan.
Personally I plan to attend.

We need a great crowd for the next 2 home games. Good fan support in the CMU game will show the team that we're still behind them. Let's get out there and support these guys, who are working their fannies off to get to a bowl game, winning record, and save their coach's job.

Central Michigan will not likely be a sell-out, the crowd should be up a bit from the first two games, but when South Carolina comes to town, Commonwealth needs to be packed to the gills and loud.

Though I agree that it will not be sold out, I still contend that it should. We want this program to be big, than we need to act likewise as a fan base.

The next game vs Central Michigan will define this team, this season and perhaps the Coaching Staff.
Central Michigan, IMO is very solid MAC team. Yes, a bad Eastern Michigan squad took them into OT yesterday at Ypsilantiand UM crushed them at the Big House. Michigan is 24-0 against the MAC and playing in the Big House before 109,000 folks is no easy chore, for any team. Ask ND.
CMU,should of, would of, could of, beaten Boston College and looked pretty good most of the game. They racked up a respectable 370 total offense against BC and showed me lot coming back from 17-3 down.
Eastern Michigan is a rivalry game and Eastern was playing the game at home against a team that may have been looking ahead to Saturday.
I just really believe, as I noted above, that you cannot underestimate, the importance of this weeks game.

We've never sold out without 10-15K visiting fans. CM may bring 1K.

OK OK it will not sell out. I'm not sure thats a good thing. Why did we expand the place?

Good post, Mackcat. While Commonwealth won't be sold out, we who ARE going to the game can make it LOUD.
I have just listened to Coach Brooks' show. To be honest, he sounded down to me. He said that the players were really down on the way home, because they really felt that they could pull off the upset. Well, we fans need to PUMP THEM BACK UP and give them the home-field advantage they need Saturday, a game we can win and be HALFWAY to a bowl appearance.
I guess I'm saying that it is WE FANS who worry me the most Saturday. Last season, after the narrow loss to Louisville with a very LOUD UK crowd, the players came out flat against the very inferior Idaho State game, BUT I really feel part of it was also that we fans were QUIET. :(We fans tend to treat games against supposedly inferior opponents as games to sit back and watch. :(
In the case of Central Michigan, Central Michigan should have beaten top twenty team Boston College. Also, Michigan only pulled away from Central Michigan late in the second half. Both of those games Central Michigan was playing on the road. We fans MUST BE LOUD on Saturday if we want these guys to go to a bowl game this year. We badly need a win over Central Michigan. We mustDO OUR PART. Good post, Mackcat.

Great post PooDoo...I agree that I think that the fans can definitely make a difference this weekend. I certainly wish that I could be there to help make Commonwealth loud on Saturday. Though with this head cold and sore throat I doubt I'd be much help:(

This thread is pretty funny. As if the fans play a bona-fideactive role in the Cat's winning.
Big blue clue.....
when they win, we cheer.
Cause....effect.
If the antithesis (we cheer, they win) were true, we would have a National Championship by now. NO fans cheer more haplessly that do we, the UK football fans.
Don't let that stop you from cheering your heads off, as it does make you feel better and is fun. If I were there, I would be cheering my fool head off too.

Well, actually they (fans) do.It's typically called "Home Field Advantage".The players do respond to crowd noise, loud crowds can also affect opposing teams, i.e., coaches deciding what endzone they want in the 4th quarter; away from the "loud" end. Loud crowds can also impact the ability of the opposing QB to make his checks at the line, loud crowds can rattle opposing teams, I have seen it innumerable times.
Loud boisterous crowds can will a team to a win, to make that 4th and a foot stop, to make that 4th and foot first yard gain. Lastly, it goes without saying, loud crowds can and do impact the officiating crew, just as a Coach can when he's barking at the crew all night long, knowing he's going to get one (a call) back.

I am not saying that there is no effect at all in having a crowd, the impact however is minimal. IMO, home field advantage has more to do with the comfort of accommodation, travel fatigue and the lack of familiarity with the surroundings; those things add stress and anxiety which uses up energy. Crowd noise is a factor, but not overwhelming to a seasoned team. UL for example uses a silent count all the time right Rick? That greatly mitigates the effect of crowd noise.
I think that fans want to be a part of the show, and some of them have an inordinate sense of influence that is just not based on reality, but rather on their desire to feel part of the team. I get caught up in it too. I yell like an idiot at games too. I am with you yelling my fool head off, even when logically I know that it is not significant.
Well, IMO anyway.
Central Michigan uses a no huddle offense that verbalizes the play at the line of scrimmage after the defense is set, very similar to what wedid a great deal of against Florida last Saturday.
If there ever was a game that the Commonwealth Stadium crowd noise could have an affect onthe visiting teams offense it will be this Saturday.

Then it's time to raise some noise like the Chippewas haven't heard in years. Let's make Commonwealth a rowdy place on Saturday night!

Exactly, Ed. I heard that, too. Now if the word could only somehow get out to more fans... Perhaps someone will call into the pregame and let fans know that important fact.
Also, thanks for the contribution to the thread, R&B. It is appreciated. Also, FWIW, Coach Brooks pleaded with fans to be loud against Ole Miss and then said that he felt the crowd had a role in the victory.
Specifically, though, I know from the past how Commonwealth fans behave when we play supposedly inferior opponents. I was ashamed of us fans against Idaho State last season, beginning during the pregame. There was NO enthusiasm. There was no noise while we were playing defense, no noise to disrupt Idaho State on offense OR tohelp fire upthe players, who came in downafter the lossto Florida and were not inspired to play. We almost lost that game to a very inferior opponent, and Central Michigan is FAR better. We fans were quiet BEFORE we started playing poorly and uninspired against Idaho State last season.
Sure, the playersSHOULD be inspiredfor every game, but so SHOULD we fans be. Theywere flat. We were flat. We pointed fingers atthem, butfew atourselves.
A crowd CAN definitely be the difference in a close game. Let's hope it's not close, but just in case, let's BE LOUD, especially for such an important game AND one in which the opponent verbalizes at the line after the defense is set.

According to the official NCAA stats UK is way down in 52nd for average attendence capacity at a rate of 86 o/o. Thats about an average of 9,000 empty seats a week.

I see there will be no singing for me on the way home after the game. I will probably have lost my voice before the 4th quarter. Hopefully we will be so far ahead by then they won't need me:PThere's always Kendy...she never looses her voice. Trust. I have offered her money to keep quiet on long rides.;)
