I looked up PREVENT DEFENSE in the Funk & Waggnal dictionary made famous by the tv show Laugh In.
PREVENT DEFENSE-an oxymoron that allows the opponent to march down the field and score, in the mean time your coaches acts like they have never seen a blitz and look like"Ned In The First Reader."

That was pathetic I must say. Archer ALWAYS does that if the other team gets the ball with < 2:00 left in the half.... and they almost always score. He should be fired for that reason alone. It set the tone for the rest of the game. You could tell that Brooks was livid. He needs to just tell Archer to take a hike and coach the D himself.

I said to my husband I wouldn't be surprised if Brooks left Archer in Gainesville.

:rolleyes:As sure as God made little green apples, I knew that Florida would score before halftime and take the lead back.
GO BIG BLUE!!!
We played the same nickle and dime defensive packages the entire game except for one play on short yardage when we were a base 4-3. We didn't play a 'prevent' at all. None. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

It may not have been a "classic" prevent with 4 db's deep, but it was, in general, a much softer (and considering how soft we play on D sometimes that is saying something) defense than was played the previous 25 minutes. Lot of 3 man rushes if I remember correctly.

No, we didn't play any softer nor any different. Florida just executed very well. Mytake is that they finally played with a sense of urgency since they had just gone down 7-6. Go back and watch the tape.

Brooks agrees with me. I like that company and will leave it at that.

Brooks just said we didn't do anything different on defense on that last drive.Florida just played better.

He may not have called for them to get conservative, but they did and it cost them. Clearly a combination of UF's sudden sense of urgency, and UK trying not to make a mistake rather than playing with confidence. It happens......:(

It also happens that the number 5 team in the country gets a wake up call, regains their focus and with their backs against the wall execute their offense to near perfection, which is what Florida did on the last drive of the first half. RV is right; we didn't do anything different defensively on that last series. There was no "prevent d."Did the players not give the same effort? Certainlycould be the case. We would probably have to have the luxury of game film to make a final determination on that:shrug:

As a CHARTER MEMBER of "THE FELLOWSIP OF THE MISERABLE", I knew that Florida would come down and score.

No offense (har) but do you really think Brooks is going to come out and throw Archer under the bus and say "Yeah we decided to play really soft, we just figured if we did that Florida wasn't good enough to get downfield on us in 2 minutes"? Of course he is going to say they didn't do anything different.
It may not have been a different "scheme" per say, but it sure looked to me as if everyone was farther off the los and everone was immediately back pedaling at the snap instead of attacking.
