Trinity kicker Tydlacka commits to UK

Usually scholarship offers are few and far between for high school football kickers, especially more than five months before the signing period.

So when Trinity kicker Ryan Tydlacka received an offer from the University of Kentucky, he took it.

The 6-foot-2, 204-pound Tydlacka, whose brother Wade was a kicker at Louisville, was the Associated Press first-team All-State punter as a junior. He handles all of the kicking duties at Trinity but said UK coaches have talked with him about punting.

I like the idea of giving a kicker a scholarship out of high school. If this young man is good enough to kick to the level of a Div I, SEC kicker, then sign him up.

The kicking game can make or break a team when the game is close. It compliments a defense by being able to provide good field position for the defense to work in. A great kicker can keep an opponent backed up all day long if the defense can hold them.

Good news if you ask me. :thumbup

FWIW, same feelings here, Spanish Moss. :)

I have witnessed two years of kicking by Tydlacka and he will have a GREAT career at UK. He puts it in the back of the endzone every time on kick-offs. Last year I was watching him practice field-goals during half-times and would EASILY make them from 50yds. +. Can't wait to see yet another Trinity grad at UK!!!

:wildcatface:thumbupGreat pickup here. Field position equals points in our favor..and a Trinity player to boot. Awesome.

During our 7-5 season Glen Pakulak was as valuable as anybody on that team. We played with incredible field position all year due to his leg. He also had a little nasty streak in him and it was fun watching him lay out unsuspecting opposing blockers at least once a game. Sounds like this kid has some size; here's hoping he's got a little nasty in him as well.

Tydlacka also has averaged 47.6 yards on nine punts, 61 yards his longest.

Nice pickup. The kid adds immediate depth to both the punting and kicking spots. Competition will make those spots better. And, he knows of what he speaks when he speaks of UK's special teams.

Great but that means we will have three kickers/punters on scholarship next year which is one more than most teams ever have. This begs the question is the staff comfortable with Masthay.

To me it begs the question whether we'll have enough room for all the Lmen & DB's we more clearly need.

Getting a Punter is very good news. This is a very smart decision by the coaching staff, IMHO. Field position is everything in close games. If he can kick 50 yard field goals as well, they will have a back up in case Sieber ever pulls a groin or gets sick.

Certainly great news.

He did have a nasty streak. I was at a game when we played the Gators and he laid out a Gator linebacker in front of the Florida bench. I watched on my binoculars as the Gator players on the bench gave the linebacker all types of hell for being laid out by a punter- great stuff.

My thoughts exactly when I saw that, RV. When you're limited on schollys, 3 K/P is a bit crowded.

And Lones Seiber? He seems to be the one left out in the discussion here. We were definitely desperate to replace Taylor Begley, and perhaps Lones was the only possibility this year. Is the signing an indication that Seiber isn't working out?

My son plays for Trinity (JV):) and EVERY time he kicks off it looks like it is going through the uprights! Go Cats!

I watched Trinity beat my old HS, Henry Clay, last night; and this guys punting and kicking abilities are unreal. He didn't get to kick much during the game but during the halftime he stayed in the field and was consistently punting out of the end zone on the fly from mid field. He also was kicking 55 yard field goals with plenty extra on it !

Wish we had him today at UT.

Don't forget the schoolie is good for 1 yr. so the staff may not give one or both of the kickers/punters a schollie for next yr.

True, but I have the feeling that no matter the situation this staff would not hang any player out to dry.

There are usually other options other than pulling a scholarship.

He just kicked a field goal in the state championship game to put the Rocks up by 3.

3-0 in first quarter.

Made a 40 yarder in the second quarter. Trinity leads 13-0.
