DEFENSIVE END CONTRIBUTES THROUGH EFFORT, LEADERSHIP
By Chip Cosby
HERALD-LEADER STAFF WRITER
When defensive coordinator Mike Archer complimented defensive end Durrell White recently for his play this season, White admitted that he was a little surprised to hear it.

White's numbers are respectable (19 tackles, 21/2 tackles for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery) but not overwhelming.

"I'm pretty hard on myself, and I didn't feel like I was making as many plays as I should have," White said. "But Coach Archer said, 'Hey, you deserve it.' "

Both Archer and UK Coach Rich Brooks said White's contributions go beyond statistics.

"He's been a leader, both on the sideline and in the locker room," Brooks said.

KUDOS to Durrell White. Besides receiving Coach Archer's praise for his contributions on the field, Coach Brooks said that Durrell has been a leader on the sidelines and in the locker room.

I, too, pull for this young man. He is obviously a very intelligent young man, as he came to the UK football teamon an academic scholarship (if I'm not mistaken). Also, he suffered the torn ACL (I believe it was) in the Kentucky/Tennessee All-Star game and had to miss a year of action. Let's hope his year becomes even better.
