Ever seen that old episode of "Coach" where the team loses on a last second play because they only had 10 men on the field. Coach Fox made the team stay in the locker room all night and count to 11.
There just seems to be a complete lack of communication, lack in thought process, and lack ofwill to win tonight.

This team has a lot of fundamental coaching problems and has for the past 4 years.

The 10-men on the field was all Hal Mumme's fault. Probably Guy Morris too.

Isn't there someone on the field that is responsible for counting 11 guys?

I use to coach pee wee football and I would have the players line up on the sideline next to me when I was putting them in the game. Then the defensive captain would recount them once they hit the field. I assigned each a number and they were required to yell it out to captain. 1,2,3,4, etc. We never had a problem.
Counting your players is elementary, kinda like teaching a basic trainee in boot camp his left foot from his right foot by holding a rock in his left hand.
Maybe someone needs to treat these players like pee wee footballers.

If our defensive captain can't count to eleven, then tell me how can we expect them to line up and play defense intelligently.

As a player you're supposed to know when you are on the field or not if you're rotating. I didn't see the game but would like to know if it was a D-lineman (unlikely, as that is very quickly obvious) or a LB/DB. I think players were not communicating to each other when rotating in and out. As a coach, once you see 10 men on the field happen you make damn sure it doesn't happen again.
First time, I would probably blame it on the players. After that its the coaching staff and it is ridiculous that KY committed that crime FOUR times.
With the desire and effort shown last night (and I paid the $15to watchthe LSU hookup) I am surprised that we could find more than 10 who were willing to get on the field at the same time. It was a complete demoralization of UK, players, coaches, administration, fans, you name it.
Back to square one, or maybe minus one.

I found this one humorous . . .
"Guess what Mike Archer: You are no Gene Hackman! And playing short a man won't score you points with Barbara Hershey!"

Do you really blame that 11th man for not wanting to go out on the field last night? If I was on the team I would hide my face in shame. How can a coach take his paycheck for that complete utter failure last night? There is NO EXCUSE for putting a team on the field so ill-prepared and unskilled. UK obviously has no pride inthe football program or the university. If this staff is the best we can do or hope for then we are in for another 40 years of misery. Enough is enough! Put a competitive SEC team on the field or drop down to IAA. The team we have would not be competitive in any DII conference except maybe the Mac. Is that what our aspirations are now? Is this what we are going to settle for now after all these years of mediocrity..more of the same..or worse? Can it really get any more embarrassing to be a Cat football fan? Good grief..

Well-said, Ed.
Too, bless your heart. Of course, if I had been able to watch it on our computer (slow call-up service, no way), I, too, would have paid the $15.
Regardless, "back to square one" is exactly where we are, or perhaps "minus one." :(I just know I'm hoping some players get healthy this week and that all the players bounce back mentally.
FWIW, I believe the "10 men on the field" wasmostlyoccurring on special teams, according to what I heard on the radio. Whenever it was occurring, it was sad and, yes, inexcusable. :(
On the bright side (which is admittedly hard to find today), I am thankful that this game was not on national television. Listening to the game, Iwas glad recruits were not watching it. BACK TO SQUARE ONE.
