I think this is a major loss to the team. He had NFL potential. We lose him and now have alot of Freshman playing time in the secondary. Some people call this making excuses, but facts are facts.

I was talking to a co worker yesterday and he is a huge Bama fan. We got on the subject of probation and even he said that for the time we were on probation that we were hurt much worse than they were. #1 is that Bama can still recruit just off of the Tradition.

If we had Bo Smith, our corner play would bemuch, much stronger, no doubt. Any time that you're forced to start a freshman in the SEC, there's a big learning curve, and you're just going to give up some big plays due to inexperience. I'm not taking away from Trevard Lindley's play up to this point, just stating the obvious. He plays like a.... freshman- sometimes in place to make the play, sometimes he gets beat, and often, he makes some brilliant plays.

Bo would have given that secondary a lot of experience and a toughness. It's a shame Bo could not take care of business.

I started thinking that during the UofL game when they kept running that sweep. Bo was a heck of a run stopper.

I know the Brooks bashers won't acknowledge this but how many coaches would expel a player like Bo with their jobs on the line? The answer - Not many.

Good thread, crice561. I, too, wonder about how this season would be going if we had Bo Smith. As you say, Bo had NFL potential. In addition to that, his loss is at a position that is so lacking in experience, which is a fact, as you say. I would strongly suspect we have a win over Coach Spurrier and his Gamecocks right now, if only we hadhad that ONE additional player available, which would put us in great shape in relation to reaching our goal of a bowl game this year. Aaron Miller is a huge loss on the offensive line, too, but this thread is about the loss of Bo Smith, of course.

Too, both Coach Brooks and Coach Archer have mentioned, from early in the season, how our defense has been adjusted to protect those very young cornerbacks (and I'm not condoning the scheme by saying that). In other words, the entire defense is being greatly affected by the loss of that one player (and he is sorely missed on special teams, too, as I so often zeroed in on Bo as I watched their play).

Like KapitalCat, I so wish Bo had taken care of business here, both for himself AND the team. Also, Blue4ever, I, too, you make an excellent point about Coach Brooks' (unlike some coaches) kicking a player off the team without worrying about his job being "on the line." I was similarly impressed by Coach Brooks' refusing to take Ricky Lumpkin off his medical redshirt status when he got down to one healthy defensive tackle before the LSU game. Those actions deserve KUDOS from us fans, in my opinion, even though we are disappointed with some of the performances on the field.

Through the past months several have mentioned how Brooks' players have not been known for getting in trouble off the field (knock on wood).I just readinThursday's CJ that "at least five Gamecockshave been arrested in the last seven months, and wesee thatoccurring in many college footballprograms. I know the lack of arrests is not getting us enough wins on the field, but since Coach Brooks had been given some credit for dismissing Bo, I felt that his players' keeping their noses mostly clean should be mentioned still again. That just makes me pull even more for these guys to win, FWIW.

I hope Bo gets his act straight. Yes, we sorely miss the young man's presence on the field, crice561.

Not I. Would say we care more about winning than following team rules. That's gotten us in worse same.

Today I was thinking that maybe "our" best two cornerbacks are or might be Bo Smith and Andre Jones. Would'ves, could'ves, should'ves...

By the way, what college did Bo transfer to?

I don't think anyone means that they wish Coach Brooks had turned his head and kept Bo after his not following team rules. I certainly know that I did not mean my post that way. Plenty of coaches do turn their heads the other way, though, and fans turn theirs, too, as long as the coaches are winning.

Not only could this UK team have had Bo Smith and Andre Jones at the cornerback spots, but also on offense we could have had Earl Bennett and Mario Urrittia as additional options at the wide receiver positions IF they had only honored their original verbals to UK. Those thoughts tend to make me sick. :(Too, if anyone does not realize that a lot about how a coach performs is the players he has as options is not looking at the whole picture, in my humble opinion.

Today's LHL noted that Bo is doing well at Weber State, getting his stuff together. He's playing for former UK assistant Ron McBride, and has played very well. He's been invited to play in the Las Vegas bowl, and is hoping for an invite to the Senior Bowl.

Thanks for sharing, Brian. That is really good to hear. I still remember when I had talked with him when he was a shy freshman. He smiled so big when I knew who he was and when he learned that I had lived only an hour from his hometown. :)I wish Bo nothing but the best. It would be wonderful if he could still have his NFL dream come true.

Again, how I wish Bo had not messed up, though. Our defense could surely use that young man.
