This question was asked on the Football Forum, but I thought this might be a good place for discussing it, too.

"A QB passes the ball 10 yards to a receiver who catches the ball and then laterals it back to another player who runs 70 yards for the TD.

Who gets credit for the receiving yardage and how much? Is it split?"

And this question was asked, too ......

"Are all the yards considered Passing yards?"

Good one Larry.

Here's the answer from my SEC Official contact.

The quarterback and the original receiver would get credit for 10 passing yards. The player who receives the lateral would get credit for run yards after a pass, and the TD. It works like a pass-fumble-pick up. Now this should bring some other discussion. :D

It shouldn't be any different than an option play. The QB runs ten yards downfield and pitches - the RB gets all the yards. The final guy to touch the ball should get all the yards (and the QB, of course).

OK, I just have to point out that the play is the hook and lateral

QB option usually doesn't cross the line of scrimmage before the pitch is made, don't think I've ever seen one go anywhere near ten yards before a pitch.

Actually, I thought it was the hooker and ladder play, but maybe that was just a movie I saw years ago. :D:P
