LEXINGTON — The only bad thing about pulling off your program’s biggest win in years is risking an even bigger letdown the next week.
Kentucky’s football players say they’ll gladly take the risk after their 24-20 victory over defending Southeastern Conference champion Georgia.
With five wins, the Wildcats need just one more to become eligible for a coveted bowl game. But while Saturday’s game comes against SEC East cellar-dwellar Vanderbilt, coach Rich Brooks is quick to point out the Commodores got their one conference win against Georgia — and they did it on the road.
“Whoever wants to fear a letdown can, but we’ve just got to do everything we can to make sure it doesn’t happen,” tight end Jacob Tamme said Monday. “I’m not scared of it because I’m trying to make sure it doesn’t happen. I think the guys on this team understand how important this game is.”
Entering the season, most of the talk of goals for Kentucky involved six victories and a bowl game. But after knocking off Georgia, Brooks has raised the bar. He wants to see four conference victories.
