Not in his first group of three mainstays, but the Cats receive mention in second group.
"Put out my entire list because I don't think they even know I have them on my list," Mayo said three weeks ago. "I think everyone thinks I'm going to USC, which is fine because I did make a verbal and that's who I have the highest interest in, but there's other schools I have interest in.

This is a very interesting quote from young Mr. Mayo. Which begs the question: Why make a verbal?

This is sort of an ignorant comment because I was never recruited to play a sport. And OJ Mayo, I'm sure, has been recruited by just about everyone in the United States.
But what's with this phenomenon of having a list of 10 or 15 different schools, some with "High" interest and others with "Medium" interest?
I don't really understand that. Seems like you just drag out the process when you bring in a whole fleet of possibilities. When I was trying to decide on a college -- both right out of high school and again for graduate school -- I had two choices. I visited both and knew right away where I wanted to go.
My decision was MUCH easier than these kids', surely, but still: it sometimes seems as if they're playing a game and we're the pawns. The whole thing screams, Watch me while I deliberate with your livelihood.

Stated simply: The tail wags the dog when it comes to recruits.

Would it really be that bad if OJ came to Lexington. One and done for sure but what a year it would be. Sure hes had his problems but so did Rondo. Rondos freshmen year wasnt that bad if i remember correctly. It wasnt until his 2nd year that his attitude started affecting the team and we all know that OJ is one and done. I say bring him on. Id be more than happy to gamble with getting a potential All-American

My wife taught school with a lady at Highview years ago. She got married, and moved to Ashland. She started teaching at Rose Hill when O.J was an 8th grader, and the ex-UL player was the coach at Rose Hill.
She said that O.J was the nicest, most humble kid that she taught. Again, that was when he was in 8th grade and alot could have changed.
Sometimes these kids get a bad rap, when it isnt deserved. I dont know any specifics about him other than that, and he has school"jumped" a little.
I would say O.J is probably a great kid at heart that got caught up in the hoopla a little.... just imo. Who wouldn`t??
I think with him playing with Patterson in Huntington we have an outside shot at him. I would love to have him for a year...which is all he will be playing ANYWHERE in college!

Some people just enjoy the spotlight, IMO. Which is why I find it strange that Patterson is still undecided. You take a look at the Top 100 and he's sitting kinda lonely there. Given that he's not that outspoken and his parents seem to have a good thought-process going, it's growing stranger by the week that they haven't made their choice.

It's human nature to be drawn to the negatives more than the positives and that's what I believe has happened here. People are quick to believe that because O.J. is this athletic phenom with all the attention that goes with it, he must be some Hollywood egomaniac. The people who know him personally have gone on record saying he's a great kid.
If he wants to come to UK, I'd say, "Welcome!"

He probably thought the check from Floyd was going to clear that day, but it is taking more time than expected ;) Personally, I will pass on O.J. one year isn't worth the headache and turmoil that could possibly arise from him being here... i wish him well, elsewhere.

Ditto. Can you imagine the circus Tubby would have if O.J. came to town. We don't need anymore problems.
