Reserve big man Jared Carter will be sidelined three to four weeks after dislocating his right shoulder in practice Saturday, Kentucky basketball announced yesterday.
An MRI examination yesterday revealed the extent of the dislocation, which came in a five-on-five drill, UK spokesman Scott Stricklin said.
On his radio call-in show, which resumed its weekly in-season schedule last night, UK Coach Tubby Smith lamented the loss of Carter. Smith cited the combination of opposition big men and starter Randolph Morris' propensity to foul as a potential problem.
"This puts us in a real bind," the UK coach said of Carter's injury. "He was playing as well as anyone."
Kentucky opens the season Wednesday against Miami of Ohio in Rupp Arena. "Our post people will have their hands full," Smith said of facing Miami's experienced frontcourt.
