I haven't followed baseball for about 5 years but when I did I was a huge Reds fan. I think they've been trying to deal him the past few seasons but never had. I liked Sean and he had some great seasons in Cincy but the Reds can always use starting pitching.

Casey was one of my favorites, but the reds picked up something they really need in starting pitching.

I hope this is an improvement and not a salary dump.

I find it kind of shocking actually but something that is needed though. It shows we will make a quality trade that's for sure. Even though Dave William isn't that great of a pitcher, I think this is not only a little bit of an upgrade for the staff but it also helps with the salary as well. I honestly believe this is just the start of it for the Reds this offseasons. I'll expect other players being traded as well.

If they really want to free up the salary burden, why not trade Griffey for a starting pitcher and three draft picks?

Likely no takers on a guy who has maybe another 2 years.

He's a year removed from arm surgery and spent last season building strength. His and Claussens stats are eerily similar. Only time will tell if he will help but he's an improvement over most of what they already had. I think the Reds dumped some salary too so they can make a long term offer to Adam Dunn. At least I hope so.This alsoallows them to keep all their OF's and move either Dunn or Griffey to 1b. But this could be just the first move for the Reds. The new owner,Castellini, said he wants to be active at the owners meetings.

The Reds never cease to amaze me. Trade a guy who hits .300 every single year for a pitcher who was 10-11 with an E.R.A. over 4. I hear the BoSox are shopping Bronson Arroyo. If the Reds want to upgrade their pitching they should start by trading a guy like Dunn and freeing up room for a guy like Arroyo. I hope I'm wrong about this trade but I don't like it. Casey was my favorite.

I agree, the Reds Lineup just won't be the same without the Mayor. Casey might not have the power of others in the lineup, but his consistency at the plate was something the Reds could always count on. The reds may still have some firepower if they keep the 4 outfielderrs, but their team average will take a dip from the Casey trade alone. If they keep the outfielders and move Dunn to first, the only other real marketable trade bait is Jason Larue or Ryan Freel and I don't want Freel going anywhere either.

Seems like to me that the Reds philosphy is trying to find a diamond in the rough. I mean over the years, trades have involved the Reds giving up a major piece in a puzzle for either several prospects or players that are coming off a injury year or something. It's never been a straight up deal for anything we need now! That's what I hate.

Once again the Reds make a stupid move in the off-season. When I heard that they had traded Casey I thought they might have got a good player out of him, instead they got a pitcher who went 10-11 last season. Just when I was starting to get some interest back into professional baseball, the Reds go out and make a dumb trade.
