Everyone has a friend whose college football team never wins. And I don't mean never wins in the sense of never wins a championship. I mean never wins in the sense of each time your team plays Louisiana-Lafayette, Eastern Michigan or Akron, you're legitimately afraid of what might happen. For me, these friends are Kentucky fans. My law school classmates Daq Tardio and Tim Weatherholt spent three years regaling me with fanciful stories about contending for SEC East titles, how the latest unheralded recruit that they stole away from Furman was destined to be an All-American for multiple seasons, how Kentucky was always close to turning the proverbial corner and instilling fear into the hearts of college football fans everywhere. No matter who Kentucky played, these two would construct lavish and detailed analyses that ultimately proved the Wildcats were going to win. It didn't matter if Kentucky was a four-touchdown underdog; every outlandish upset was always, eternally, going to happen.
