Funny Rupp story

I caught part of the Kentucky basketball special on KET last night.Please watch it if you every find that it's on. It's very good. Not just about UK, but all of Kentucky's basketball history.

Anyway, Rupp's son said that after a game in Memorial (I can't remember which one) and UK lost, that Rupp sat down right in the middle of the bench and said to the refs "I'm a sick man, a very sick man." Then he asked them to come and sit on each side of him and they did. He told them that he wanted to die like Jesus did-between two thieves.:ggrin:

Coach Rupp could keep you entertained for hours with his wit. His post game shows were classics and I wish UK had them all on tape. His story about the L shaped basketball court at Vandy will make you roll on the floor.

My dad told me this...

I think Joe B ( the player involved or could be somebody else) was on the team, ANYWAY

UK was playing Cal out in Califorina (i think) and the player went up to coach Rupp with about 5 minutes to go and asked if he could play. Rupp said no ,go back down to the bench. 3 minutes to go the player begged please let me play.

Coach Rupp told the young man to go to the end of the bench.

A timeout was called and in the huddle the player asked Coach Rupp to go in for the last 30 seconds.

Coach Rupp grabbed him and said

"YOU SEE THAT DANCING BEAR" (Cal Mascot cheering at the game)

Player said yes.

Rupp said "I WILL PUT THAT BEAR IN BEFORE YOU SEE ANY ACTION TONIGHT".
