Let me say, I do not like Paul Finebaum. Never have, never will. But the Crimson Tide world pays attention to what he says and when he says it is time to fire Shula, things are not good in Tuscaloosa.
I like Mike Shula and think he has a monumental task to bring Bama back to the top but now I am wondering if he is going to survive.

Other than some occasional audio clips from his radio program that someone posts here, or an article like you just provided, SM (thanks, by the way, for doing that), I don't have any experience with Finnebaum, but as you said, he's apparently a big deal for Alabama football fans.
I don't want to make too much out of it, but I feel like his comment about the road game at Kentucky (or lack thereof) speaks volumes about the direction our program is headed and theirs. We're a LONG way from reaching 'Bama when it comes to football, I know, but you get the idea.
Has the Tide beaten Auburn at all during Shula's tenure?

I put that out as the headline as a compliment to our program and Coach Brooks. When Alabama writers see Kentucky as a tough road game things are headed in the right direction.
Notice the quote: :)
The Tide's only SEC wins this year were by a field goal against Vandy and in overtime against Ole Miss. Thank goodness there wasn't a road game at Kentucky
I think Auburn has beaten Bama five straight years. ( I may be off ) and that doesn't set well with Bama alumni. It may be the longest losing streak to Auburn in history.
For years Paul Finebaum has made fun of Kentucky football and now he is glad the Tide doesn't have to come to Lexington. I like that.

You are oh so right Spanish Moss. He used to make fun of us in excruciating terms while doing so relentlessly and it PO'd me to no end. But I was younger and now I don't listen to what others say about us so intently..unless of course they are uL fans!! Then it is ON!!!!

I've always considered Finnebaum to be an obnoxious jerk. Of which sports journalism has more than it's share. But...what I think he fails to realize is that, considering the watchful eye of the NCAA over their program in recent years, Alabama can't go out and buy players wholesale like they used to.
I don't know if Shula's a good coach or a bad one, but the "pay for play" days are a lot harder to pull off.

I, too, like that quote, Spanish Moss. :DToo, Alabama (because of its still recruiting well because of its tradition and possibly because of its smartly scheduling a couple of games in Hawaii that also kept players around) seemed to be doing much better in the probationary period. That makes what UK has accomplished this season, in comparison to Alabama, that much more special to me. :)
Also, how UK has performed this season, in comparison to Alabama, is still one more example of why Coach Brooks and his team are deserving of more respect than they are being given by some UK fans. Too, currently sitting SECOND in the SEC East (knock on wood)feels so good. I cannotunderstandhow so many are choosing to wallow in misery during these UK football times. GO CATS! BEAT UT!

My money's on them giving Shula one more year - probably because his name is Shula.
Unless there's a great one in the wings, I think that's the direction I would take.
And, yes, Finebaum is a complete assclown.

The ego-maniacle Paul Finebaum.

Would you take football advice from this man? Would you buy a used car from the man? Would you leave your wallet in the same room as this man? Would you leave your daughter in the same room as this man?
Dick Vitale has a love affair with Duke. Paul Finebaum has a love affair with Paul Finebaum. He's obnoxious, condescending and just plain silly.
Oh, and by the way, he graduated from Tennessee.

I don't think Shula is the man - however, just a year ago - he was 10-2 (albeit he finished the season 1-2). I can rememberwhen the Tide was 9-0 at that point Finebaum stated they may be the worst 9-0 team ever. Imagine hadProthonot broke that leg last year - they may have well played for a BCS title.
So the team sits at 6-6. I'm sorry but last year at 10-2 buys himone more year.
