No way...no how.

Now, wouldn't that be funny, given that Auburn wanted him 3 years ago?
With every "prestigious" coaching position that opens up, Lietrino will be mentioned, since he currently coaches at a "stepping stone" school.

If he's not one of "Bears Boys", Alabama fans will chew him up and spit him out.

I have no problem with that.
Petrino would deserve it.

I'm for that.

That would be like a dream come true for me.

I don't see it happening. He's not a "Bama Boy".
Plus, I'm sure his courtship-debacle with Auburn a few years ago is still fresh in their minds.
I doubt that even if he expresses interest, he'll even get an interview. It's one thing to schmooz an AD like Tom Jurich at a school that has no deep rooted football tradition like U of L, but he sure as heck won't be able to pull the wool over the eyes of the power brokers at Alabama.

I agree that it's next to impossible he becomes the HC at Bama. Bama has gone outside the fraternity twice for a head coach with horrible results - Price being particularly bad.
The Bama faithful would likely be as irate as the Michigan State faithful were at the hiring of John L.

There's a lot of them on the masticated and macerated pile. Not so many left intact.

You are so right about that. Bear has been dead for many years now and his boys are grandpas. Have you seen Kenny Stabler lately or Joe Willie. Have you seen either one sober?

Saw Joe Willie on 60 Minutes last week. Swears he hasn't had a drink since he slobbered all over that sideline girl a few years ago on national TV.

Sober or not, both of these Bear Boys were outstanding quarterbacks. I loved their game. Both are legends in the bars on the Alabama beaches and the Florida Panhandle. They spent many an hour refining their game on that sand.

1. Spurrier (sp?) - Has one of the best recruiting classes in the nation coming. Never leave
2. Saben - Never would leave the Dolphins especially after turning that team around again this year.
3. Patreno - Win a big bowl game. Get paid the same amount or more to coach in a real football conference = New Alabama Head Coach.

Your pretty close to what the latest rumor mill has spit out in Tuscaloosa:
1. Steve Spurrier (USC) - Stranger things have happened. Who would have thought that he would have gone to USC in the first place. Steve wants another NC and Bama would provide an easier route than USC.
2. Saban (Miami Dolphins) - His name has surfaced just recently as a target. Don't see it happening.
3. Bob Petrino (UL)- A hot commodity that Bama fans are talking up.
4. Rich Rodriquez (WVU)
Next week should reveal Shula's fate.

I realize that as a UK fan I should despise the man, and I do (for attitude and morality mainly) but he is a heck of a coach. His name will continue to come up or job vacancies and possible vacancies until he either establishes Louisville as a long term title contending program (i.e. no longer a "stepping stone" that many consider Louisville to be). I won't question his ability. I will stick with questioning his morals.

1. I think one of the main factors for Spurrier going to South Carolina was lifestyle. Carolina is a great place to live if you like the outdoors. It is about as close to Gainesville, Florida as you can get. It has great golfing, beaches are close by and the fishing is excellent. Plus it is in the South and Spurrier is a Southern boy.
2. I agree Saban does not come back to college football.
3. Petrino. That will be interesting to follow. It does have charater issues but Bama
is looking for a football coach, not a minister. If Petrino is clean and has not
violated NCAA rules, I think he would be an attractive candidate. Auburn fans
would be worried and that counts for something.
4. Rodriquez. I can't see him fitting in at Bama. They can do better or at least should be able to do better.
I'll stay tuned and please keep us posted if anything comes up in the local media. This is quite a story.

I don't think Petrino will leave Louisville for at least a few more years. It would cost too much for any other school or NFL team to buy out that massive contract he just signed with Louisville back in summer.
But if any program would be willing to do that, it might be Alabama.
