(*Disclaimer*: I have not read every single post on every single thread on this forum since basketball season started. Frankly, I've only read a handful of them. I say that to let everyone know that my comments hereare not directedat anyone or are they made in rebuttal to someone's particular comment, and I don't want anyone to get their underwear in a knot by thinking I'm calling them out. Everyone has their own opinion and this is mine.)

I look forward with anticipation to every college basketball season because it means I get to watch the 'Cats take the floor and march toward what I hope will be another national championship. I fully expect the 'Cats to dominate each team they play and I go into each game knowing that the odds of them winning are far greater than they are that the 'Cats will lose. Now, do I realistically believe that they're going to WIN every game? No. Will there be games when they don't play as well as they should? Yes. Are they going to lose some games along the way? Yes Will they lose some games they should have won? Yes. By the same token, will they win some they should have lost? Yes.

I'm no more happy that the Wildcats are coming out of the Maui tournament 1-2 than anyone else is, but that's the hand they've been dealt. Along with that, I refuse to fall into the mindset that says (a) The season is over, (b) the Wildcats are going to lose umpteen games, (c) Kentucky is not the elite program in the SEC, (d) Tubby Smith can't coach, (d) His system doesn't work, and whatever otherdoom and gloom mantra that tries to set in may say.

This team is comprised of a group of young men that traveled cross-continent to play in a basketball tournament. In the last couple of weeks, they've played 5 games in 8 days, three of them in succession, in a time zone that is 6 hours different than what they're used to, and they're just flat TIRED! As much as we would like them to be, they're not supermen. Now, why was Memphis able to adjust better and play better? I have no idea. I don't have a degree in physiology. All I know is they just did. But life as we know itisn't over, and the season is FAR fgrom being over. And I don't for one second believe that their heart or their desire comes into play and I refuse to put that into question.

This Wildcat team is young and loaded with talent and the one thing I do know is they're going to be just fine, thank you very much, and I am not going to believe otherwise.

I realize that some of you may disagree and that's fine. Look at it however you choose. But those are MY University of Kentucky Wildcats (just like they're yours, as well :D ) and I am NOT going to give up on them, ever.

(Sorry for the semi-soapbox routine, but some things just need to be said from time to time. )

GO CATS! :wildcatface

We will get better. How much is to be determined, but this group WILL improve and make some noise this year. I have no doubts on that. The ride will be painful though.

I think it is a matter of frustration (at least for me) more than anything.

I actually should just delete this post, but....

Your point is???

Why is it that we cannot be civil to those who have different viewpoints on how things are going? You can disagree without this garbage.

Believe me, bob, I was right there with you while I was watching the tournament. But after a couple of hours and thinking it through, I re-grouped.I guess I've just been a Wildcat fan too many years to throw in the towel.

It is not a matter of throwing in the towel. I actually never give up because I have seen great turnarounds in all of our coach's tenures, including one Tubby Smith.

It is a pattern of problems and deficiencies that could/should have been avoided with harder work and better decisions by this staff that bother me the most. (Throw some better luck in there as well)

Too early to give up for this group for sure. Some will, others won't. The ones that can hang in there through this bumpy ride with these youngsters will be battle ready.

But to not admit there are glaring weaknesses that may not be overcome with this current team is not being realistic in my view. I think that adds to the frustration.

Let's see how this unfolds.

Valid points, all. Anybody who reads my posts know I try to look for positives and I guess the way I word them could give the impression that I don't see the same things that others do. It's not that way at all. I'm concerned about the very things you mentioned, and a couple of more I could throw in. For example, I've been worried about Sheray Thomas since the get-go. He just doesn't seem to have his head in the game at all. It's like he's just going through the motions. It's like since Stevenson got on campus and as his star has started to rise, Sheray's is starting to dim. I hope he can get it turned around quickly. Lord knows, we'll need him big time as the season goes on. I have no doubt the team will be fine. We just need to re-group and get it going.

I don't think any UK fan ever truly gives up. My apologies if I gave that impression.

For the record I am not giving up on the team but I will take it a step at a time. As of this moment, I just want to end the season with less than 10 losses. I hate going through a season hoping we don't lose rather expecting we will win but that is where I find myself.

I do not like the position I am in but I must be honest if I post comments on a message board. If Tubby had won certain recruiting battles and had Tubby reevaluated his staff, things may be different. But he didn't and they ain't.

However, there are teams on the pre conference schedule we should beat:
College of Charleston
Chattanooga
Santa Clara
UMass
EKU
and Houston just to name a few. Plus you never know how things might turn out against UNC, Indiana or UL. By the time conference play arrives we may have less than 5 losses. I will take that as a positive. If we only have 3 or 4 I will say things are back on track and we will be a force in the SEC.

It is great to be a UK fan.

...and that is the bottom line with emphasis on EVER...I have to be in a neck brace for a few more months so I can't cheer as loud or hard as normal so I'll take the blame for the losses ;)But I will be cheering as hard as I can...good thread Rick.
