Throughout my life, I've seen good and bad KY football teams. I was always proud, even in a 2 or 3-x W/L record year b/c we were in one of the toughest conferences that exists. Anytime verbally jousting with a foe, I could at least fall back on...."if your team was in the SEC, playing those tough teams, your record would be worse than ours". They'd usually back off a bit then.
However, this year's schedule was built for one reason, with a certain architecture by brooks and the AD. Project: Save Rich's A**. Loading the schedule with AA teams just to get some wins is embarrassing. The kids are doing the best they can with a lousy leader. His track record was never stellar, and it will never be. Instead of those AA teams, we should have played Arkansas, Auburn, and Alabama. (or for that matter any single A team). Even though I live in Gatorland now, I grew up in KY, lived there for 27 yrs, graduated from UK and will always bleed blue. I'm dissappointed that the end of this season will not bring a new quality coach and at least give us a chance for a better football team in the near future. In the meantime, I guess I can order some more of those bumper stickers from the bill curry era.........what was it.....? ....run, run, sack, punt........the bill curry (rich brooks) tradition continues. Best of luck to 'em in the bowl game. I'll be rootin' for em.

First of all, welcome to the board. Good to know we have another Big Blue fan in the Sunshine State. I have lived in football country most of my life and I understand what it is like to be around people who live and die for the sport. So keep your chin up among all of those Gators and Noles.

As far as the schedule, I find no fault with it. We have to crawl before we walk and walk before we run. Probation put us on our knees and we have crawled to a point that we can now walk. Sure we played two or three non conference patsies. At least they should have been patsies. But we barely beat a couple of them and if we had played stronger teams we may have three more losses and going no where after tomorrow's game.

It is important for us to put some W's on our side of the box scores. Very important. No one criticizes UL's schedule so I doubt anyone is going to criticize UK. Every winning team plays a couple of patsies and we should be no different.

Let's rejoice together for a great season for Kentucky football. It is a wonderful year to be a UK football fan. We have problems, major ones that I am hoping will be addressed after the season. I want a real defensive coordinator and I pray those in charge will see that it happens. But for now, I am going to have fun and enjoy the moment. It has been a long time coming.

Kentucky of all peopleowes no apology or explanation to anyone for trying to soften their schedule.

We reguarly play one of the top 10 toughest schedules in the country.

Thanks, I need some of your optimism. It'll be interesting to see who tries to steal UL's coach after this season (and leaves them crying in their shoes). Miami Univ?

I'll agree with the statement about toughest schedules........excluding this yr. 2 Single A patsies and one AA would be a step in the right direction for next yr.

Duh... Kentucky has no control over the SEC portion of their schedule... Or are you suggesting we schedule SEC teams for our "non-conference" schedule?
In the meantime, I guess I can order some more of those bumper stickers from the bill curry era.........what was it.....? ....run, run, sack, punt........the bill curry (rich brooks) tradition continues.
Do you even watch the games? How can you compare this offense to the Bill Curry years? That is idiotic. They have one of the most potent passing offenses in the league!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ditto to what SM has said. WE need to apologise to no one for our schedule this year. Why is it okay for everyone else to schedule soft in the non conference and not UK? Some people are always wanting to play every tough opponent every year. Why should we? As SM said, we have to craw before walking and that before we can run. We are now able to walk and we need to build a foundation of wins (any and all wins) before we can go to the next level. We are going to a bowl this year, get extra practice, and hopefully more highly rated recruits.

There is so much wrong here, where to begin...

As Catsville said, UK has no control over the conference schedule. It's set by the conference office. Western Division teams rotate on and off in due time. UK couldn't have scheduled those teams you list if they had wanted to, nor can they avoid playing those teams when it's their turn to rotate on.

UK scheduled only one AA team this season, that being Texas State. The other non-conference opponents areA. Yes, Central Michigan and La.-Monroe are A. Unless the rules have changed recently, you can count only one win against a AA school in order to be bowl eligible. Thus to schedule more than one game against a AA schoolin a single season would be, well, stupid because doing so would make it even more difficult to qualify for post-season play.

Lest anyone believe that UK is the only SEC team to schedule a AA team, the 2006 schedule shows otherwise:

Arkansas Southeast Missouri State
Florida Western Carolina
Georgia Western Kentucky
Ole Miss Northwestern State
Miss State Jacksonville State
S Carolina Wofford
Vandy Tennessee State

Yup. I watch em. OK then......pass, pass, sack, punt. New bumper sticker. The end result of each offense (curry/brooks) has been roughly the same, so I'd say theyre comparable. Potent, hardly. Dont get me wrong, I hope he (brooks) proves me wrong. I'd like nothing more than winning seasons on a regular basis, with victories over 3-4 good SEC teams each season. IMO, I'd rather watch a Mumme/Morriss team. I still can't believe we let Morriss slip through our fingers.............. And I still can't believe that we didnt offer Spurrier 3M/yr to come on over when he left the 'skins.

I agree. We have played a AA team almost every single year that I remember. Almost everyone does these days. We only had one on the year, so I dont know who the other one was regarding your statement:
"Loading the schedule with AA teams just to get some wins is embarrassing."

Louisiana-Monroe is in the Sun Belt and last time I checked they were in NCAA.

Let's see - Curry's best season at UK had an offensethat scored 228 points (went 4-7) - the 6-6 team scored 220 points. So roughly 20 ppg.

This year's team has scored over 307 points - almost a touchdown per game better.

Oh - not to mention Curry never got to 7 wins and never faced probation.
