Pete Carroll’s Monday News and Notes (../modules/news/article.php?storyid=1849)

You know how sometimes people just strike you as cool? There are certain individuals, regardless of age, that just radiate cool to me…..guys who seem to enjoy life, are completely comfortable with themselves and likely live pretty fun lives. I always think of people like Ray Charles, Matthew McCounaghey and even Bears Coach Lovie Smith. But I also have to add to that list, USC Coach Pete Carroll. I mean think about it. Here is a guy who was basically a bust in the NFL….he dusts himself off and creates what is likely the coolest college football program around (with Snoop Dogg at the practices) and if he handles his business next week, he will be going into the fourth season in a row where he is playing for a national championship. Plus he does all this in LA, where he is the toast of the town…..not bad for a middle-aged guy.

I'm sort of surprised this thread has not generated a little more traffic than it has. There is some really good stuff about our ongoing recruiting of Patrick Patterson and Jai Lucas, as well as a very postive update on the Marshall Moses situation. Is it because the early signing period is over and the recruiting interest has subsided for now? Or could it be, at least for some (like those who have alreadyjudged this year's recruiting as over)that the news is too positive? We are still very much looking an awesome recruiting class in the eye. Matt's latest blog posting only confirms that possibility.

I think it's because the early period is over and our primary targets are waiting until Spring. Patterson said he's basically waiting to see how each of his finalists play this season- and we just got waxed by Memphis. Not a lot to be excited about right now. We're also getting ready to face UNC on Saturday, which could get out of hand if UK doesn't bring it's A+++ game.
Kentucky can still land an amazing '07 class. I'm disturbed that Tubby has trouble stringing two or more consecutive classes together. Our current frosh are fantastic (and waaaaay under-rated). We have the foundation for an excellent run but need more pieces. Tubby's track record in this regard is what has fans like me worried.

One thing we have going for us with Patterson is that he will be playing two games in Lexington during January. He'll get to experience a lot of Big Blue love and (I hope) see the best face UK fans can show.
There is only so much nashing of teeth that a fan base can do and I think for right now UK fans have reached their limit on Patterson. There is nothing that is going to happen any time soon so really all we can do is sit and wait, which doesn't leave much to talk about.
The thing is, this team is a couple of forwards away from a top 2-3 team. We have solid guards, a good center and forwards at all other than Stevenson. Stewart looks pretty good, we seem to be a in good shape with Moses, but as has been the case for many months now, Patterson is the key. Add Patterson, Moses, Stewart and Harris and next year is a top 5 team.

Patrick is a much-needed recruit but also, I think if you look at ALL the factors, coming to Kentucky to play for Tubby is a better move for Patrick than going to Florida. Immediate playing time and impact are just two of those reasons.

Did you all listen to the show? Patrick said he had talked to the players and knew who would be coming back next year. Surely, he doesn't believe that. I know players may think one thing now...but, tobelieve that what a players thinks now will be the same after the season in complete.
