Kentucky’s Carly Ormerod (Louisville, Ky.) was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week after helping the Wildcats remain undefeated at 8-0 and for her consistent play as the squad’s starting point guard, the league office in Birmingham, Ala., announced Monday.
Ormerod, the 2005 Kentucky Miss Basketball, averaged 5.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game last week in helping the Cats to three consecutive wins. UK is off to its best start (8-0) since the 1980-81 season after defeating North Carolina A&T, Georgetown and Detroit. The first-year floor leader dished out a career-high seven assists vs. the Aggies of A&T and followed that performance with five assists against Georgetown. She tied her personal best with five rebounds vs. Detroit.
