MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama was still without a football coach Thursday night, though Crimson Tide officials were gearing up efforts to fill the vacancy.
Alabama reportedly offered West Virginia's Rich Rodriguez the job. There was no agreement in place, but the two sides were still talking, a person with knowledge of the search told The Associated Press on Thursday night. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no official decision had been made.
Alabama spokesman Doug Walker said the university did not have an announcement scheduled.
Sources told ESPN's Joe Schad that Alabama extended a six-year, $12 million offer to Rodriguez, and Alabama would also pay West Virginia a $2 million buyout. The proposed deal would make Rodriguez among the top 10 highest-paid college coaches in the nation, doubling his current salary.

After reading what I could see without clicking on the rest of the story I will go on record, no never will I go on record:shock:, but rather moreso out on the proverbial limb(where I am more comfortable and at home), and predict bama will have them a Coach Rodriguez in the not so distant future.

Good for Bama and good for us, now we can welcome Vic Anderson to the Cats. Welcome Vic.

According to ESPN Radio, this is far from a done deal. West Virginia is countering. I see a Bobby Cremmins move coming

Me: "Bama's going offer Rodriguez the job"
Dad: "What makes you think that? Rodriguez has been denying any involvement all week"
Me: "Precisely"

You've got to love seeing a coach repeatedly saying things like, "I love where I am, and I hope I can coach here until I retire," then, less than one week later, he's on the verge of jumping to another school.
But of course, if a coach is honest and says something like, "I like where I am, but if someone is interested in hiring me, I'll listen and evaluate my options," that's basically construed as, "I hate this hellhole and can't wait to get to the bigtime."

He is officially staying at WVU per ESPN Radio
I've had so much fun lurking on Bama and WVU message boards. The WVU Rivals board had 7896 people on the board a few minutes ago. That's insane.
Anyway, there were Bama fans taunting WVU fans about RR not being able to turn down the tradition rich tide and 15 minutes later the WVU fans are celebrating and Bama fans are saying we didn't want your hilliblly loser of a coach anyway.
It's fun when it doesn't involve a team you like ;)

Yeah, you've really got to hate how coaches say they're going to stay at a school they love, then bolt as soon as someone offers a better contract, don't you? ;)
