MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia (http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/team/86053) coach Rich Rodriguez turned down Alabama (http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/team/86100) on Friday, telling his players that he'll be back for his sixth season with the Mountaineers (http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/team/86053).
A loud applause could be heard from inside the Milan Puskar Center at Mountaineer Field after Rodriguez told his team he would be staying at his alma mater.
"I fully respect his decision and wish him the best," Alabama (http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/team/86100) athletic director Mal Moore said in a statement. "I want to remind everyone of what I said at the outset of this process: my only objective is to get the best person available to lead the Alabama (http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/team/86100) football program.

Oh boy. Back to the drawing board for Bammer. When you can't get a coach for such a high-profile program, something is wrong.

Wow. This reminds me of the Florida seach that yielded Ron Zook. 'Bama had better be careful, or they'll be wishing for Mike Shula again.

They need to admit that the Auburn program has passed them by. 5 coaches in 10 years, fire the AD. He is the BOZO in the program not the coach.

Nahh, it's not Mal Moore, it's the CrimsonTidefans. They're all crazy, demanding this, demanding that. (Sorta like UK basketball fans) Any coach would be CRAZY to risk his coachingreputation by going there, because the outside pressure and influence on the program would be more than any mortal could bear. Rodriguez made a good decision to stay at WVU.

In all seriousness, it is the athletic administration at Alabama. Mal Moore has only a few more months before he retires. Paul Bryant, Jr. yeilds the power at Alabama just like Bobby Lowder does at Auburn. No top tier coach wants to come into a situation like that. Bama needs to get this one right or things will get real ugly with the fan base.
I was at a Christmas party last night with a large group of Bama fans who were saying that Alabama was no better than a mid-major right now. Some were saying that Kentucky had passed them.
I just sat and listened.

That's priceless. Well, we did pass them this year.
I guess you meant that Paul Bryant, Jr. WIELDS the power? not yields?

Shula wasn't the second coming of Vince Lombardi or anything but from what I could tell he was pretty much a solid coach.
I agree that Bama may have cut their own throats on this one.
But maybe that will free up some good recruits that we can snag. :thumbup:cool::cool:

That was a smart move on Rodriguez's part!!!
The reasons why:
1.) Rodriguez already has it made up in Morgantown. He's pretty much treated as a god up at WVU with a great football team already in place that he put togeather. Right now, he'll be there as long as he wants to be.
2.) He's gonna have Slaten and White back for next year. Along with the rest of the offense and the defense, another bonus for him to go back to WVU.
Bama could give him the money, but that is a pressure cooker job. In 3 years if he didn't win 9 plus games OR beat Auburn, he'd be out. He's got it made now in Morgantown.
