A.J. Stewart, F, Arlington Country Day: The senior leader of the defending state champions averaged 12 points and 11 rebounds a year ago. One of best shot-blockers in the area, he was first-team Class 2A all-state selection last year. Has already signed with Kentucky.

Arlington Country Day's boys basketball team has two lofty goals this season.
If the Apaches accomplish either one, they will become the first Jacksonville team to record such a feat.
First on the list is another state title. Last March in Class 2A, ACD joined four other Jacksonville teams (Duval, Bolles, Raines and Ribault twice) who won back-to-back state titles. But no Jacksonville teams have won three titles in a row, something the Apaches now have an opportunity to achieve.

Area fans desiring to see one of the nation's best high school basketball teams in the country are running out of time.
Arlington Country Day, with national preseason rankings of 11th (USA Today) and 15th (Sports Illustrated), made one of just five Jacksonville-area appearances this season, overwhelming host Nease 104-55 on Monday.

A.J. HAD 20PTS, 11 RBS, 3 BLKS against Providence.

You can take it what you want but I dont like how he said he looked at the players they were loosing, Bobby Perry and RANDOLPH MORRIS. maybe he knows something everyone else dont but I was hoping the big MO would stick around through his senior season..

I was just getting ready to post something similar. Then I decided against it, because I doubt Mr. Stewart is privy to any information that has yet to leak. It's not a crazy assumption to say that Morris will probably leave this season, so I'm thinking that that, along with being caught up 'in the moment' (cameras in his face) led to him saying what he did.

It is interesting, though. (and that was a pretty sweet dunk right at the beginning of the clip)

it sounds more like that he thought morris was a senior. he said the seniors they are losing bobby perry and randolph morris. he did not seperate morris from the seniors.

Holding down the post for Arlington is University of Kentucky signee A.J. Stewart. The 6-foot-7 forward got the Apaches started in their game against Latta with a back-door, alley-oop dunk and then an alley-oop layup. Stewart finished with 22 points and 18 rebounds.

Another interesting article on A.J. Stewart and his high school team.

"The Apaches are at full speed from the moment they step on the floor. Think Kentucky under Rick Pitino, but add an overdose of Red Bull."

"Heads up | Arlington Country Day is led by 6-7 leaper A. J. Stewart, who is headed to Kentucky. But they also boast a nice off guard in 6-foot-1 David Swann, who has a nice all-around game in the blowout win over Latta."

"(Stewart's) really not that good of an offensive player," Hicks said. "But boy, he's a beast on defense. We just have to really try to put a body on him and keep him off the glass."

Dang I wonder if this is true. We need some big men with offensive skills as bad as anything right now.

ACD / Scott County game last night.

AJ Stewart 15 points on 6-7 from floor and 3-4 from line, 13 rebounds, 5 blocks, 2 steals, 5 to's, 1 assist. Foul trouble kept him out of a lot of this game.

Here is another site for following stats on the games AJ is playing in. I have been with this fine young man for both his games here in Myrtle Beach and he is one mighty classy kid who will be a definite asset to UK next year. BTW, I am the man on the left in the clip that hands AJ the pin to sign an autograph for another gentleman.

The Stats do not tell the story of the game. A whistle happy official took AJ out of the game in the first five minutes by calling three terrible fouls against him. AJ came back to dominate the first half when he scored all his points and made several key blocks, two on three point shots by the Scott County kid that is going to IU.

I really liked what I saw of him as well UKbob. When we signed him I was thinking he would probably be a guy who wouldnt really play much his freshman year and would probably end up being a contributor maybe by his sophomore or junior year. However I do believe im gonna be wrong about my previous assumptions. AJ looks very athletic and very active especially on the defensive end and will have an immediate impact for the cats next season. The kid is only ranked # 91 in the top 150on rivals but I believe he would be ratedmuch higher if his teammates looked to get him the ball more inside.

AJ only went 2-7 but had 12 rebounds in their game tonight as he team lost 63-57 and will not play for the title. Wright, an Indiana signee, had 32 points.

Its hard to score when your teammates won't past you the ball when you are posted up inside. Actually, AJ had a very good tournament, won the slam dunk contest and played within himself, rebounding, blocking shots etc. His team shoot more three point shots than any team I have ever seen and the only way AJ gets a score is to get an offensive rebound and stick it back in.

He can flat out jump out of the gym. In his winning dunk he left the floor at the free throw line and slammed it down with two hands, another he jumped over a teammate for the dunk. He likes playing defense and does not care if he scores or not as long as his team wins.

Could you tell if he was a legit 6'8"? I was just wondering, sometimes these High School coaches add a little to help the player.

ACD routs Summit in state semifinals

The Apaches advance to the final, where they will meet a familiar foe.

By JEFF ELLIOTT, The Times-Union

LAKELAND - There wasn't a shortage of points from one Jacksonville boys basketball team in the playoffs.

Arlington Country Day, scoring at will in the first half, ran away with an 80-47 victory over West Palm Beach Summit Christian in a Class 2A semifinal game Thursday at The Lakeland Center.

As a result, ACD's bench players received extensive playing time in the final two quarters, which took just 18 minutes to play.........

ACD wins boys state title - 03/04/07

LAKELAND - At halftime of Arlington Country Day's boys basketball state championship game on Saturday, ACD athletic director Rex Morgan fired the school's basketball coach.

But Morgan, who doubles as the coach, rehired himself just before leaving the locker room after convincing his players to step up and play ACD-style basketball.

The players responded, delivering a 72-43 pasting of Port St. Joe at The Lakeland Center, and ACD became the only Jacksonville-area school to win three boys' state titles in a row.

"I fired myself at halftime in that I did such a poor coaching job in the first half," said Morgan who watched his club's 10-point first quarter lead evaporate to at 23-21 at halftime. "I've got three of my starters in foul trouble in the first half and we're still out there chasing the ball."

"We just talked about how we needed to calm down and play our normal game," said A.J. Stewart, who collected his third first-place medal in as many trips to Lakeland. "They [St. Joe] were playing physical and trying to get us out of our game.

"That first half was pretty bad, but we're pretty talented. We always felt that we would win it. We just had to play our game."

But it's still not quite enough.

AJ had the only perfect dunk of the night last night even better than the vaunted Beasley. He is in the finals of the dunk contest. He is obviously very athletic. I am tickled that coach Gillispe is here to maximize his potential.

I think Scout has downgraded him from a 4 star to a 3 star and now has him as the #34 PF in the class.

Before PP committed, Stewart was a 4 star recruit and was a top 20 PF prospect. Just goes to show what the ranking system means. Nothing.

I see AJ Stewart being a possible suprise this year, if he can give us some good minutes, that will be very nice. I think he's the "forgotten" one that may become a fine player.

I saw one report on another board that claimed to have seen him during the elite camp and that he looked much better than expected. The kid reminds me a lot of ED with his personality, hopefully he will be as good an addition to the team and surprise a lot of us.
