The UK club hockey team has fired its coach, Mike Sosnowski, halfway through his third season.
UK hockey president and forward Andy Bertram said the team came together and made a collective decision late last week, adding that the team acted in hopes of realizing its full potential. Assistant coach Rob Docherty has taken over the coaching duties for the rest of the season.
"To bring in kids that you believe in and for them to turn around and say they don't believe in you, it hurts," Sosnowski said during an interview on WRFL's "Big Blue Review" Sunday night.

Jordan,
Isn't UK Hockey a club sport or an actual UK sanction sport? If it's a club sport, is there any thing in the works to make it an actual UK sanction sport if it's not one already? The coach said the same thing basically as well. He was very surprised himself.

Just going by soccer. Although I think. It is samething. Soccer was club sport up till early 90's then it receives letter for acdemical creditation. I think. hockey gets soem scholorships as well. You probably gotta drop some mens team say soccer. For this to happen.

Actually, this is a very rare moment for me Damon. I actually understand what you are saying and I'm able to respond back to you. Anyway, what you are talking about is Title IV the gender rule. For every man or woman you add, you must add equal amount to the opposite sex side. So, if they add 15 guys for hockey, they must add 15 women for a new sport. But my question is rather or not UK Hockey is sanction as a UK Sport or just a club sport?

No, unfortunately it is a club sport. I heard something like they only receive 850 dollars from UK and the rest of the expenses are paid for by the players and ticket sales. Personally I'd love to see UK Hockey become a UKAA sanctioned sport. I don't care which men's sport it would replace other than bball, fball, and baseball I'd much rather see hockey. Its addicting. I've followed them on the road to Cincy, Louisville, Indy, and Bloomington last year. The crowd is the best crowd I've ever seen at any college game period. I bet before everything is said and done it becomes santioned! It's become too popular not 2!

What they need to do is keep playing teams like Minnesota, New Hampshire, and etc. The reason I say this is when playing teams that have won College Titles in Hockey bring publicity to the school. NKU's women soccer did this. They originally started out as a club sport. In the first year, the club sport were beating several division 1 schools team that actually were sanction by their college. NKU's administration saw how this was going and the following year, they sanction it as a sport. Within the first five years of existence, it's been two two final fours, 1 championship game and I think two Elite 8s.More likely a sport isn't going to take away a sport unless it's in the red and replace it. More likely it will add you. What I would suggest to the members of the men's hockey team is possibly looking around for women that are interested in starting up a hockey team as well. Have them form the group and help each other. So, when it does come time, you pretty much have made the choice for the Administration easy if they add the guys, they can just add the women and they are still in compliant with Title IV.
