I need one to take to a Christmas Eve brunch. Anyone have one that you have tried and know is delicious?

I make this every Thanksgiving as did my mother. It is delicious. I'll send a note to my home and forward it to you tonight. It might be a little late, but I'll get it to you. I can tell you the ingredients. Grits, 2 cups cheese, butter, milk, eggs, garlic salt. I use the Quaker grits.

Thanks Cathy. Do you use sharp cheddar cheese?

Here it is and it IS delicious

This is the recipe my mother made for years. Now I do. The Church cookbook she put them in is dated 1978. Here goes - word for word

Marvelous as a substitute fo rpotatoes with barbecued steak or chicken and much easier to serve. Can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated. Cook 1 cup of grits according to directions, plus 2 tbsp of butter (will need a total of 1 stk). Add 2 cups of any cheese, grated. Add the cheese after the grits have finished cooking and are still hot. Beat 2 eggs in a 1 cup measuring cup and finish filling with milk. Add 6 tbsp butter. Add to mixture with salt and pepper. Cover top with lots of paprika. Bake 45 minutes in a 325 degree oven.

I bake in a 9 x 13 greased pan so it will cook quicker. 45 minutes is seldom enough time. Check after 40 minutes. If middle is still jiggly, up the temp. Will set as it cools a little. The recipe didn't give amounts of salt. You'll be able to estimate when you see how much it makes. I use garlic salt. I use sharp cheddar. Enjoy. They are delicious.

Sorry. I forgot to post. I have a terrrific casserole I make Christmas morning for my family. Another tradition my mother started years ago for brunch. I call it Mom's Christmas Souffle

33 slices of sandwich bread, 12 jumbo eggs, 1 quart milk, 1 pound cheese, 1 stick butter. Divide bread in to 3 stacks of 11 slices. Trim crust and cut in to one inch pieces. I slice in thirds both ways. Will get 9 squares. Grease a 9 x 13 pan. After each stack place cubed bread evenly. Cover with 1/3 of the cheese. Keep layering ending with cheese. Beat eggs. Mix eggs with milk very welland I use 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp garic salt. Pepper to taste. Pour this mixture over bread and cheese layers. Melt butter. Pour evenly over pan. Cover with foil and refrigerate over night. Bake uncovered in a 400 degree oven for 45 to 55 minutes in a water bath and until brown and crispy on top. Let rest for 5 to 10 minutes. Scoop or cut in squares.

The birds love it because they get the trimmed crust:)

Thanks ladies.
Both of these recipes remind me of dishes I do from time to time, with some interesting differences. It will be fun to try these, I imagine they're both fabulous.
