Thats exciting to see Jai Lucas, Stewart, and Williams shoot up the rankings. Even though we now have our man at the point, I really hope we land Lucas. I was surprised not to find Marshall Moses' name anywhere in those rankings. Any clue why hes not on there?

They may not be sure what year he classifies

I am not a Tubby basher but how in the heck can we continue to not sign these kids when EVERYONE else signs them early?

Two kids in the top 50 not signed--and both are UK recruits?

Wow.

Wow.

I agree. Completely mystifying, frustrating, disappointing, and any other -ing word you want to name why Tubby has had so much trouble signing kids early.

Will,

I truly don't get it.

Tubby was in Maysville a month ago and while not a good public speaker he is a very real, genuine, caring person. I cannot believe that doesn't come across in the living rooms of these kids for their parents. Basketball aside--I'd love my kid to play for Coach Smith.

What, then, is the problem. It has to be one or a combination of the following IMO:

1) Bad recruiting methods, techniques-talent evaluation or figuring out whether a kid is actually interested in us or not. (We've lost WAY too many that we thought we had.)

2) Bad recruiters (not good "closers")-what the heck does Rigot do anyway?

3) Playing style (or perception)

I am mystified by the whole deal.

According to Patrick Patterson's parents in published reports a major factor is waiting to see if the coach is going to be here. They seemed to be concerned about negative fan comments toward the coach and rumors that he won't be here if this season is like last year. Lucas also expressed similar concerns ans said the wqants to see how the season goes for teams he is interested in. Hope that helps demystify it a little for you.

Couldn't agree more with both of you.

The "not sure if Tubby will be at UK" thing is real. Hell, Tyler Smith said the reason he chose Iowa (and, implicitly, chose it over his only other choice, UK), was thought he was comfortable that Alford would be there, after getting burned when Buzz Peterson left.

However, I think that's only part of it. How big, I'm not sure, but I think there are much bigger problems.

I would agree with the "Is Tubby gonna be around " Syndrome if this was the only year this has happened. It's not in fact it's about the 4th. Something else gives here, I wish I could figure out what it is.

I really don't know what to make of that. Tubby's been at UK for 9 seasons and makes $2.5m (or close to it). He's not leaving. Mitch Barnhart just stuck with a football coach through more friendly fire than anyone could imagine- so it's doubtfull that Mitch pulls the rug on Tubby. So....

Either the Patterson's feel UK fans have the power to run Tubby out of town- or they're using that as a smoke screen. It could be a polite way of saying, "Kentucky isn't at the top of our list. It's up there, but not at the top."

If the Pattersons expect to be NBA-parents one day, maybe they're looking to see which program will place their son highest in the lottery. NBA money is not to be taken lightly, even if it's 2-4 years away. It'd be like deciding which Ivy League business school will ensure the best job on Wall Street after graduation.

For any recruit with NBA aspirations, this has to be a factor in their decision.

Definitely one of the bigger issues.
