:thumbupGreat article, Brett. I too, found my emotions running the gamut as the final seconds ticked off the clock. My Dad and I have been going to UK football games together for over 40 years.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the rest of us!

I had just finished reading the piece on the home page before coming here. What is this man's moniker on WCN? I would love to know. I could not be more impressed, both as a former English teacher and as a UK football fan. It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you, Bret Baierlein. Naturally, I teared up as I read your words. PERFECT DAY had kept coming to my mind, too, over and over, beginning with the weather and ending with the huge, convincingbowl victory for these players and coaches. The experience was beyond words. For me, too, this team had "my mind and heart" like no other has ever had. The way they believed in themselves, when few outside their circle were doing the same, and how they united for the one common goal was indeed something to be admired.
The singing of "My Old Kentucky Home" was, I agree, the perfect ending. As I joined in, I felt tears in my eyes. I was not only so happy, but so proud. Most of all, as you say, WEEP NO MORE, MY LADY. :)This UK football team wiped away so many tears of heartache, so much weeping, and replaced them withtears of JOY and PRIDE. :)
As I read the piece, my only regret was that our younger son was working and could not be in attendance (although my older son and his wife, thankfully, were sitting with us). When Jacob Tamme was telling about being in Commonwealth as an eight-year-old and experiencing the pain of that last-second loss to Florida on the long pass play, I thought of our two young sons' being with us that nightand going from that high of thinking we had pulled off the huge upset to the disappointing loss. Both of those sons had experienced so many more similar heartbreaking UK football lossesthrough the years. One got to be there with us last Friday. One was only able to watch the end of the game on television. Both were SO HAPPY for the Cats, though. WEEP NO MORE. :)
Again, Bret, thanks for this so touching piece. WELL-DONE. :thumbup:thumbup.

Great article. As I said on another thread, I took my 10 yr old son to the game and cherished a moment thathas not happened often with a son who will soon think it is not cool to sit with his dad anymore. lol It was was one of those days I will still remember years from now.

Thank you all so very much for your kind words. I really did fall in love with this team. How could one not fall in love with a story as redemptive as Andre Woodson's? How could a fan of football, to say nothing of UK football, not absolutely love Wesley Woodyard's "balls to the wall" style of play? Or Rafael Little's emergence from this year's battle with his own body? There are just so many great stories and good kids on this team that it is difficult not to have fallen in love with them.
Poodoo, your comments are especially heartwarming. My senior English teacher was, and still is, one of the biggest fans of my writing. She has always been a cheerleader & your comments remind me of her. Thank you. To have such a comment from a fellow educator is very gratifying.

I so agree, bret1555. :)Like you, I cannot imagine anyone's not falling in love with this team. :)
Too, I had strongly suspected that you were the Bret whose writing Ihad beenreading. By the way, as a teacher, I always tried to find something positive to praisewithin my students' work. In your case, no searching was necessary. It wassimply that BEAUTIFUL.
Too, my favorite pieces were often when students had (and used)the ability to intertwine some emotion into their writing (and my younger son happened to have that ability, by the way, which naturally made "Mom" happy:)). You most certainly have that ability. The praise was most deserved. Further, A+ on the piece, which I had omitted.:)
