1. Spurrier (gotta put OBC here b/c of his tenure in the SEC and his W-L record)

2. Richt (best recruiter in league...assts become coaches very quickly)

3. Saban (will succeed at 'Bama...only a matter of time)

4. Meyer (see Saban's note)

5. Fulmer (not where he once was...has a good asst in Cutcliffe)

6. Tuberville (very good coach, but still not top 5 IMHO)

7. Nutt (one trick pony)

8. Bobby Johnson (does a lot w/ very little)

9. Rich Brooks (my dog)

10. Les Miles (way too much talent to not compete for the NC)

11. Ed Orgeron (good recruiter)

12. Slyvester Croom (no explanation needed)

IMO:

Spurrier and Fulmer's too high.

Brooks is too low.

Johnson way too high.

I agree with Brian - In my opinion, Spurrier has done precious little (if anything) to distinguish himself at South Carolina. Florida? You kidding me?? Any high school coach could keep them in the top 20 with that recruiting base.

I, too, think Brooks is too low.

In fact, I might put Saban #1. He won the big one in a short time at LSU - starting with a LOT less talent than Spurrier ever had at Florida.

Saban's not that good. He hasn't won an SEC game for two years. ;)

1. Rich Brooks - won 3 more games than most predicted. Class, class, class.
2-11. who cares?
12. Fulmer - no class, a lack of class, and a cheat, showing his lack of class.

I have no problem with that. ;)

I don't think he's the worst, tho.

1 Richt - Got caught w/o a QB this year, but that's unlikely to happen again.

2 Saban - If he can weather the 1st couple of years, he will win big at Bama

3 Meyer - Has won big everywhere he's been. Will have to adapt his offense better.

4 SOS -Fine coach, but Bob Stoops isn't walking through that door.

5 Tubberville - Always fields a physical team no matter what, but needs a QB badly.

6 Brooks - Has as much football knowledge as anyone in the SEC. Just needs more time & players, both of which will come.

7 Miles - Team has too many mental letdowns in games, or he would be in the top 5.

8 Johnson - Does as much with what he has as can be expected.

9 Nutt - Hard guy to figure out. Just when you think he's a gonner, he'll pull a McFadden out of his hat.

10 Great Pumpkin - Still a master recruiter, but has gotten lazy, and his team follows his personality.

11 Croom - In a bad situation at State in terms of facilities and mess left by Sherrill.

12 Orgeron - Very good recruiter, but makes Zook look like Lombardi on the sidelines.

10

When you're talking about ranking the coaches...do you mean who did the best job this past season, or do you mean based on overall body of work? Because if you're talking about overall body of work...there's only so many coaches that have won a national title.

Pretty much agree with this list as well. However, I think I'll like to see what Nutt does in next 2-3 years. I think he is better than #9 but he hasn't proven it.

1. Urban Meyer - This guy has won at EVERY school he's been at from Bowling Green, to Utah, and now with the Gators.

2. Nick Saben - College minded coach with a National Title Ring

3. Steve Spurrier - Still a great coach in college football. Had a LOT of cleaning up to do down in SC, but things are getting better.

4. Les Miles - LSU started playing EXCELLENT football the 2nd part of the season. Bad call cost his team the Auburn game... This is a team that should only have one loss this year but still a great team with a great leader.

5. Tommy Tuberville - Had a down season this year but still doing good. How do you go undefeated in the SEC and not play for the national title a few years ago???

6. Mark Richt - Bad year for the Dawgs this year but still finished with a winning season. However some say that Georiga should have a national title by now....

7.(tie) Bobby Johnson - Now here's a guy just needing one more thing to bring it all togeather for the Vols. So close to becoming bowl eligible the last 2 years. Not too bad at all for an academic school.

7. (tie) Rich Brooks - Brooks came into a terrible situation back when the Cats were on probation. Complicated things even worse by bring in one of the WORSE OC's in the history in college football... Ron Hudson..... at least he did resign even though Brooks was not going to fire him. Joker gets promoted and the offense picks up from then on. Some mistakes have been corrected and UK is on the right track. If he is able to get rid of Archer, the DC can really excell to new heights!! Something Brooks has done a fantastic job at is recruiting! Two thumbs up!!

9. Houston Nutt - That wasa fluke this year! Nutt had a lot of talent this year.

10. Fat Phil - How much time does he have left with the Vols?

11. Ed Orgeron - Not much to work with...

12. Sylverster Croom - Just plain bad

For what it's worth, you could say the exact same thing about Phil Fulmer.
