LEXINGTON, Ky. -- A pat on the back is better than a punch to the stomach, and for once, Rich Brooks is getting more of the former than the latter around here.
Earlier this week, the University of Kentucky football coach got an uproarious ovation at Rupp Arena as the Wildcats basketball team was beating Houston, and on Internet message boards and radio airwaves, Cats fans are singing his praises.
"It's kind of interesting how the rope burns on my neck have healed," Brooks joked yesterday during a season wrap-up news conference. "Even though I'm the same guy I was six months ago or three months ago or six weeks ago, the perception is totally different at this point."
