JP Prince, that is.
According to reports on Rivals, he and his family are visiting the campus today. Interesting.

Why not? He'd have to sit out a year anyway, and when he does we'd be losing Crawford and Bradley

Prince should have to sit out one year, so he'd be eligible by this time next year, I think.
I know nothing about the kid. Don't know what position he plays or anything. I know he was highly touted in high school, and I know he's related to Prince, but that's it. You'd think he would have fared better at Arizona; once you get past their starting five, they fall off quite a bit. For him to get such little playing time either suggests that his game is not where it needs to be or he and the Silver Fox had differences.
Very interesting to say the least.

From what I understand, he's leaving Arizona for one reason only, he's homesick and wants to be closer to his parents. It isn't about his ability or playing time, or anything negative outside of that. I guess he would be eligible this time next year, but it's also possible that he sits out all next year as well... interesting to know that there's a mutual interest since he's been on campus. Guess we'll see how it plays out.

Didn't he announce he was going to Vanderbilt?

He is a 6'7" PG that averaged over 27 pts his Senior year. We recruited him pretty hard that year and lost him to AZ. Can play the point or the 3....sort of like Jasper.
He wanted to go to Vandy, but they would not take a mid year transfer.
Perhaps a backup plan should we not get Jai Lucas.

His numbers at Arizona aren't exactly impressive:

Not meant to be a slight at the kid. If he can't get playing time at Arizona, why would we take him? I guess I just don't understand the logic.

Who knows. He was obviously not happy there, which may have had something to do with his not playing. Sure had good credentials in HS.

I dont get whats wrong with some of you guys. Most of you complain about Tubbys recruiting, then when we get achance to land some quality talent you complain, geesh. This guy was a 5 star player out of high school..Hes most likely super talented and I would sure be happy to have him in blue.

He might have been great out of high school, but he can't log more time on the floor at AZ than the towel boy. There has to be something keeping him off the floor there.
Like I said, I am not trying to slight the guy. If he ends up in Blue, great.:thumbup There have been some questionable pickups here lately with our coach... that is were the concern is coming from.
This comes from the Gary Parrish blog on CBS sportsline.com earlier this week:
Former Arizona player J.P. Prince is scheduled to meet with the Tennessee staff Thursday, according to a source close to the situation. If things go well, it's likely the sophomore guard will transfer into Bruce Pearl's program and enroll in time to play following the first semester next season, if not sooner.
Prince's family initiated contact with UT, and Pearl is open to the idea of taking the Memphis product. The only hold-up, it appears, is that the staff is concerned about Prince's reputation of a below-average worker and questionable teammate, and so Pearl wants to talk face-to-face before making a final decision now that he and his assistants have already conducted a pseudo-background check.
Among those consulted, according to the source, was current Vol Dane Bradshaw, who played with Prince at White Station High in Memphis. For what it's worth, the source said Bradshaw spoke positively and endorsed Prince's addition.
Under normal circumstances per NCAA transfer guidelines, Prince would be ineligible to resume his career until after the first semester next season because of his presumed January enrollment. But the former Parade All-American only played 17 minutes in three games this season after falling out of Arizona's rotation and ill with a reported "virus," and so he plans to petition the NCAA for three full years of eligibility that would, if granted, make Prince eligible for the start of the 2007-08 campaign.
Later in the week, Parrishreported that Pearl was going to make a decision by this past Friday:
Final thoughts: The Tennessee staff met Thursday with J.P. Prince, and they plan to decide Friday whether to allow the former Arizona player to transfer into the program. A 6-6 sophomore, Prince left Arizona last month after falling ill with a reported virus. But to my knowledge the problem wasn't anxiety or asthma, and the significance of that probably can't be overstated, not at this point.
While the idea that Vandy passed for academic reasons is not hard to understand, if UT has also passedit makes you wonder what the real deal is and whether the Cats should take someone for whom we were their third choice.

He wants to enroll now. Vandy would not accept him mid year. Another of the rules. It has been a big discussion point in Nashville.
Vandy does nothing to help themselves compete.

Dumb rule by Vandy. He's not allowed to play for 1 year anyway. You'd think they'd want him to hit the books in the meantime to develop that way but what do I know.

well, for this fan it doesn't really come as much of a suprise... i think he chose tn for many reasons. i doubt that uk was a very serious contender for Mr. Prince. This will help Coach Pearl alot.
