South Carolina has major problems.

That's an understatement. I feel sorry for Odom. After we stretched it past 15 points, they just flat quit.

First time I've ever seen a Dave Odom team quit.

But really, they've had nothing but disappointing years since Odom has been there. The last two South Carolina teams should NOT have been in the NIT. Especially last year's bunch. No how, no way. That team was too good.

IMO Odom is on the hottest seat in the SEC. Meanwhile, Tubby Smith's seat is cooling off a tad. :D

Yeah, but they won the las two NITs so they shoud have been there. I just can't believe the lack of intensity in that arena. I used to be pretty worried when we played there.

Winning the NIT is good...for a mid-major. South Carolina was built to be an NCAA team. They had some solid wins last year but were wildly inconsistent. They had a first round draft pick. A lot of senior and junior leadership.

And they end up in the NIT.

I'd be surprised if Odom is back next year.

They miss Balkman like we missed Chuck last year. They do all the dirty work that never makes it to a stat sheet.

Can the Gamecocks afford a great coach? Do they care? They are a football school. That's where their bread and butter is.

Major problems, they will be looking for a new head coach after the season if they can't right the ship.

I couldn't believe how many empty seats there were! I used to live in NC and my wife and I would go with some other UK fans to Columbia to see them play. (Ricky's early days when they weren't on TV) That place used to rock!:beer::beer::beer:

That is exactly what I was thinking last night as I watched them play

They lost their Chuck Hayes

And no way should they replace Odem he is a great coach.

USC has lost their last four games by a total of 112 points. OUCH There next two games are against UT on Saturday and then Arkansas on the 24th. More ouch to come I am afraid.

I read in a South Carolina newspaper that most of the 13,000+ fans that had attended the game had already left the game in the final minutes. Those players have to be really down right now and not wanting to attend class so they don't have to talk about it. I hope they turn things around and give UT a hand full Saturday.

Oscar reported on the pregame show last night that even though they just gave Odom a two year extension on his contract, it also added a 250K buy outprovision that was not in the contract previously. In other words, prior to his extension they had to pay him for every year still on the contract. Now, they can pat him on the back and show him the door for a mere 250K. If that wasn't greasing the skids my mother's a virgin.

I've never cared much for his coachingbut always respected the way his teams brought it to the Cats. However, they flat quit on himlast nightand I don't thinkwinning the NITx2 is going to give him the cache to survive that kind of scenario even at a football school. Heck, Spurrier probably spends 250K on landscapingand hair coloring in a year.Feel bad for Odom, especially ifhe loses Kelley, butthat seat is not hot, its occupied by a corpse, he is history.

He has three transfers from major programs sitting out this year, and most of the guys he's playing are young. If Odom can hang on, USC should be a lot better next year.

Here's the vibe in Gamecock land:

Nobody really cares. There is more news about Spurrier's press conference yesterday than the USC basketball game. There is more news about a couple big football recruits who have recently signed. The USC message boards are still posting things about beating Clemson and winning a bowl. There is more news about USC baseball team being pre-season ranked #1.

Still, Odom will be gone. Although basketball is a club sport at USC, Gamecock fans have enough pride to be embarrassed about what has been going on this season (and generally over the last five). Clemson fans were gleeful that USC won back-to-back NIT championships because it's such a dubious honor, which seems indicative of Odom's tenure.

Nobody better may come (personally, I liked Folgler at USC), but Odom won't be at USC.

Agreed.

They really don't care. The radio shows I listened to on the way home from work were all talking about football and Sidney Rice leaving for the NFL. I was embarassed for them by the sparse crowd at a nationally televised game. The loudest it got in there was for the halftime show.

John Phelprey's return to the SEC?

Hmm, very interesting thought. I think they may give Odom one more year, though. His best player is injured, he is starting 3 freshmen, and he has 3 redshirt transfers on the bench.

However, if they do pull the plug, Pelphrey would be a great choice. He would be coming in at a time when things could only go up (i.e., the new Defensive Coordinator for UK's football team). He'd have some experience and new people coming in. He would have a few years to show he could recruit. I think it might be a win-win situation for both sides. But I still don't think they will can Odom. Winning the NIT does show something, and all he needs is an upset or two of a ranked team to stay in the hunt. Everyone will be overlooking them for the rest of the year. Bad mistake. Teams like SC, Vandy, Georgia, Auburn, are all very dangerous on a given night.

I would say Reggie Theus, but he may be laying in wait for a job with a different set of birds just down the road.
