Length of game: 45 minutes

Points scored by UK: 69

Shots taken by UK: 57

I just do not understand why Tubby doesn't take the chains and shackles off these kids and let them play BASKETBALL. After all, the object of the gameis to put the ball in the basket asmany times as you can and score more points than the other team. I've said it before and I'll say it again, shooters have to be allowed to shoot....when they feel it, not when the coach tells them it's okay.It seems to me more and more that Tubby likes to play KEEP AWAY instead. To me, taking only 59 shots in a game is absurd, especially in an overtime game. Anyone who believes that potential recruits don't take note of how many points a team scores and how many shots they take is mistaken, in my opinion. I also believe that Tubby shows a lack of confidence in his kids by not allowing them to shoot more. After passing the ball 19 times trying to get an opening to get it inside (when most good teams just are not going to allow that to happen) the kids have no choice but to take a "bad" shot or allow the shot clock to run out. I beieve the philosophy should be that that Pitino had with Jemel (sp?) Martinez: "If you're not going to shoot the ball, transfer"! I believe Tubby should have more confidence in his players in that, if you're open, SHOOT IT!

Of course, this is just my opinion.:?

Funny thing is I saw an article earlier in the season where Bobby Perry mentioned that he felt Tubby was letting them shoot more if the felt it was a good shot, and not chewing them for doing so.

It seems to me with all the pressure applied to this job and him saying he doesnt have an anwser, why not let the boys play like they have nothing to lose.

They sure seemed to play that way for the majority of the first half. They all looked loose and liked the way the game was being played.

yea your right. butwe could've forced more turnovers in a full court press which gets you more shots. also kansas and n.carolina scored in the 80's also in 40 min. boy just a little over 1 shot per min. let's see every team in america can do that so everybody has a shot at staying in the game.PRESS ,CREATE MORE TURNOVERS AND GET MORE AND EASIER SHOTS yea you give up a few easy shots but you have to give up something to get something. boy pelphrey and feldhaus were really fast but that team created a ton of turnovers probably avg 25 a game thats how you get more shots. you can't be scared to give up a couple of easy baskets cause the to's will come

The first half of last night's game was exactly how this team should ALWAYS play. That style of play is Kentucky Basketball, that is how kids WANT to play! It was honestly beautiful to watch and a sight for these sore eyes...

It's absolutely mind boggling why we decided to totally put our foot on the brake and grind it and grind it in the 2nd half. I'm at a loss. It's more conceivable to have that change from game to game, but not from the 1st half to the 2nd.

great thread. i thought about this a few weeks ago while watching another game and wanted to see how many shots we were putting up. in th GA game we put up 1.266 shots per minute. thats pretty low. in other SEC games wednesday, FLA was 1.2, LSU was 1.55 vandy was 1.37, and MSU was 1.575. however it is not mainly due to our style of play. in a 45 minute game we only grabbed 8 offensive rebounds, UGA had 17. the average for the above mentioned games was 11 per team. we also turned the ball over 14 times, thus taking away shot attempts.

Tubby complained after the game about how we played at a slower pace. FWIW, when we were playing at the fastest pace, the substitutes (and more freshmen) were playing. I, too, LOVED watching most of that first half.
