in the game???
The UKplayers down court were running everywhere, the UKplayer throwing the ball inbounds threw it directly to a Geo man at our free throw key and the Geo playeralmost made a 80 foot shot.
Did Tom Leach ask him about it or was that buried deep in the game screw up questions????

I mean the length of the floor pass and a shot in .8 seconds? You've got to be kidding me that your disappointed over that? And by the way, had UGA made that shot it wouldn't have counted.

Gee, let me break it down.
Why was the ball thrown to the Geo man??

I thought we could win the game on some sort of freakish play.

In the outcome yes. In that play heck no and who can be. Desparation shots with that much time rarely make it too the hoop and I was just waiting on the ot.

I haven't watched it on replay, but it was probably a Laettner play. That's what most everybody runs in that situation. Get a guy at the free throw line (free him up by screening him or simply post him there), throw him the ball and have him turn and shoot.
Either we didn't set a good screen (which is par for the course), or the Georgia player stepped in front of the man who was supposed to catch the ball and intercepted it.
Again, that's just speculation. I was so nervous at that point that I couldn't see straight.

If anyone has a tape of the game, could you check the time difference between the game clock and the shot clock as the time was winding down on Georgia's last possession? While my major was English, not math, I could have sworn that there was more than a second of difference. That's why I kept screaming that time should be added when the game clock was down to .8 as the shot clock violation occurred. When the officials gathered in front of the camera, I felt certain that we would get a few more tenths of a second added (as did Mr. Poodoo), but it didn't happen.
Perhaps I was wrong, and there had actually been only .8 of a second difference. That could certainly be the case, since I was naturally excited about the game at that time. Again, though, could someone check if he hasa tape of the game? Simple math would tell what time should have been left. I'm just curious and am asking since the topic of the play is being discussed. GO CATS!

^^^when the shot clock reached ZERO, there were 2.0 seconds left in the game. the officials reviewed the tape, and left it at .8...i have no idea why.

If it was Cameron-there would probably be no time left on the clock. To me its unexcuseable for officials to not make sure the proper time in the last mintute of the game.

I didn't see the game, but let me explain the timing rules in that situation.
There isa time lapse between the time a play happens, and the clock operator get's the clock stopped. When officials review the play, they can allow for thelapse of time, and put time back on the clock if they feel there is absolute evidence showing how much time lapsed. I hope that makes sense.
Also remember, the clock doesn't start until the ball is touched be a player on the court, not when the ball is released.

I'll need to watch the game again to verify this, but I'm fairly sure that right as the shot clock expired Georgia took a shot. Therefore, the game clock continued to tick away until the ball failed to touch the rim. Lighthouse, does this sound accurate?
I think 0.8 seconds left was the right call.

Hard to make a lenght of the court shot with .8 seconds. A tip-in is about all.
