Funny how national TV quit showing Kentucky's Senior Day ceremonies due to complaints of unfair "emotional recruiting" by other coaches but for the last two weeks i have seen the WHOLE jersey retirements of Duke's Sheldon Williams and JJ Reddick. Something doesnt seem right does it???????

Kentucky waits too long to retire the jerseys. Delk will probably be gray and have grandkids when he goes up in the rafters.;)

Duke is a marketing machine and uses the media to their advantage. Kentucky does very little marketing and fights the media to their disadvantage.

I've got to agree that the University lags behind the nation in marketing its product. There's so much that could be done that isn't. Need to bring in some Marketing smarts.

Retiring a jersey the year after a player leaves make a mockery of jersey retirement. Duke has retired so many jerseys that it's pretty much meaningless. I would imagine that one of the perks that Duke offers recruits is that their jersey will be retire if they actually stay there 4 years.

Only tradition-less programs would retire a players jersey before the sweat dries on it.

i guess the point i was getting at was its ok to show the entire ceremony when its Duke, but unfair to show a tradition like THE WAY UK does on Senior Day. But the marketing too, is a very good point.

I agree that one year is way too soon imo, but I really do not see any problems doing this after a few years. Delk is way over due imo. Why wait when recruits need to ask who he was?

As far as marketing, Duke and Coach K have used the media to the fullest. In this era, its all about perception and Coack K has created a program and mystique that is hard to compete with without much media exposure.

Next season nobody on Dukes teams will have a number below 100. They have retired them all.

I agree that it's past time for Tony Delk. Of course there ishuge difference in Delk and Reddick ...... for Delks it's over ten years and for Reddick it's barely 10 months.

And to answer the question about not showing UK's Senior Day on television, that's just the networks (or the NCAA if they have a hand in it) being petty and vindictive, but then that's no big surprise. And, yes, it is a double standard. :thumbdown

It's kind of like having your own recruiting video played on national TV for several months disquised as a credit card commercial.

Many of us may disagree on Tubby and other UK-related issues but surely we can all agree that Duke is the lovechild of the media and in particular ESPN!!
