Lighthouse,
Once again, I'm turning to you for a question. I feel like there was a big blown call in the Vandy/UK game last night that I need your help understanding. I don't know time exactly or anything but do know some things.
It happen when UK had the ball and Bradley had the ball over by UK bench and tried to make a pass to Joe Crawford but the pass was knocked away and a Vandy player grabbed the ball and was straddling the midcourt line late in the second half. In his left hand was the ball and his pivot foot was his right foot straddling the midcourt line. Clearly the ball was over the line on Vandy side of the court. But then he pivoted back to the UK side with the ball. Should this have been called an over and back? If not, what wouldn't made this an over and back call?

I saw that plain as day and couldn't believe nothing was called, but I will wait to hear the explanation before I bash the refs.

There was a ref right there on top of it too. I have a feeling he was out of position or a judgment call.

They got it right. I saw it too and figured there might be a question about the no call. Without quoting the exact rule, here is an explanation. To achieve front court status, both feet and the ball must be in the front court. Because the player picked up the foot that was in the front court and pivoted into the back court, he was legal. Also, because he was holding the ball, it's position doesn't matter. Now here's why it can get confusing. Let's put him in the same position stradling the division line. Had he picked up the foot in the back court, he then achieves front court status and if he puts that foot back down in the back court, that would be a violation.

They missed a lot of calls. I think it was Rondo that was trampled on a fast break of Vandy's, but the ball handler made a pass to the wing - the refs eyes swung with the ball and he completely disregarded the other players' actions.
Anytime we actually knocked the ball loose it was automatically called even if the ref could only see the players backside. I think the refs stunk last night, but thats not why we lost.
What makes me mad is that Tubby hasn't stood up for the players on the court. He doesn't even look at the refs when they call those cheap fouls on us. Tubby should yell at the refs half as much as he does his players. The refshave as much say on how the game is played as our players and he should let them see his disgust as well.

Well, we completely disagree. The differencemight be how you, me, and Tubby view the game. I saw the entire second half and saw a few things, but nothing like you describe. Tubby gets on the officials when it's necessary, but has no intention of making a fool of himself like a lot of big name coaches do. I know I'm wasting my time when I say, all that yelling makes no difference in how they call a game.

Thanks Lighthouse. I always thought it was the ball that can't go over the line. So, you are saying it's more the feet that's important in this case?

The ball is just as important if the player is dribbling, but in this instance, he was holding it.
