* Includes regular season and conference tournament games.
** Oklahoma is currently 74th, Uconn 93rd, or would rank higher.
*** UNC's 8-20 (118 RPI) '02 season skews their avg.
**** UCLA's back-to-back losing seasons ('03-'04) skews theirs.
***** Omitted teams like Syracuse, Maryland, Stanford, and Pitt
that had too many 50+ RPI finishes to balance their
exceptional ones.
Sorry for the poor cut and paste. Lots of folks on this board moan about UK falling from its elite status under Tubby. I think these numbers disprove that. Since 2000, the Cats have finished tied for 2nd for the best average RPI in the nation. We have played a tougher strength of schedule than any other school.
Granted,Tubby'slack of successin the tourney has been disappointing and the 2006 team was his worst (with this '07 bunch slipping in that direction). I hope their is a lot of crow to go around (Coach Brooks may still have a few servings left in his freezer) because I think this team is capable of a good run in March and I believe that Tubby will continue to lead UK successfully into the future.
