i really got to thinking about the situation. let's say we sign patterson and lucas. why does everyone think we will be much better. look atour rosterobjectively and without any bais:
bradley- an enigma to say the least. i love the kid but he's either scoring 20 or really hurting us with turnovers.
crawford- great score who disappears in big games. someone show me a game where he played great against high level competition and led us to a win. you won't find it.....we're 2-14 in our last 16 against ranked teams.
morris- has moments where he is awesome. still looking for some kind of consistancy.
carter- who knows anything about him other than he hasn't showed much but effort so far.
jasper- athletic huge pg who can't shoot. becomes a liability at the end of games.
meeks- by far the best player on next year's roster imo. can shoot the three, drive to the hole, and isn't afraid of putting himself on the line.
stevenson- if he is here next year, he could be a great player. that is if tubby ever gives him a shot. he's producing more per minute than perry and thomas combined.
porter- solid roleplayer but far from a star.
williams- big body, not sure how much he'll give us.
stewart- athletic four who can run and jump. could help if he gets clock.
patterson- would immediately become a threat if he manages to pick up on the defense.
lucas- could contend for a lot of pt if he can lead a team like some suggest.
i just don't see how we get better......you can say experience will help. but, we'll be lead by a senior class who still hasn't learned how to win. our best players will be frosh and sophs. but, they will not be like the unc's or ku's of this year. they are good but not GREAT. i just don't seea final four contender anytime soon.

The key components to next year's teamare Morris and Lucas. ShouldLucas come here, we need him quickly to learn how to run this machine, and earn the majority of playing time at PG. Then you could move guys back into their normal position:
PG - Lucas; w/Jasper and Porter behind him
SG - Bradley; w/Meeks getting alot of playing time behind him (probably should start, but won't ahead of Bradley, a senior)
SF - Crawford; w/Jasper off the bench and Harris getting some time
PF - Patterson; w/Stevenson backing him up and Stewart learning the game as a Freshman.
C - Morris (if he's back); Carter if he's not;thenWilliams in alearning role. I really think Carter will be OK next year. Not a "go to" guy, but he only really lacks playing time and conditioning.
This is still aguard oriented team, with not much experience and depth in the front court, especially if Morris doesn't return.
With Morris, this team will still struggle not to lose 10 games, but they would have a shot. Without him, I don't think we will do any better next year than this year.

:cool:This is just a hunch but I think Jared Carter is going to better next year than most fans think...and if Morris's lazy *** comes back maybe some competition for playing time might do him some good.

Consider whethersigning those guys will simply prolong this agony. Doing so (signing them) may be just enough for Smith to want to stick around and for the UK admin. to want him to stick around. Smith has failed more often than he has succeeded at motivating and positively coaching highly talented players. For every Prince and Bogans (who, by the way, were forced to play four years at UK),you haveStone, Carruth, Parker, Barbour, Rondo, and now Morris. Let's just take our lumps and get this thing over with.

Really good post. I don't personally think Patterson or Lucas will make the spalsh some are expecting. Simply because they are freshmen and they all experience growing pains. that doesn' mean i don't want them, but just that them alone aren't going to save coach smith's job.
