Has anyone else noticed how bad we are at passing the ball? Many many times our guys will flash off the screen and the pass should be thrown but isn't. Or worse they throw it about a second too late and nothing is produced by the pass. I saw this countless times today.

They are afraid to pass the ball, cause if something goes the least big wrong, Tubby will yank them out of the game.

Were they passing today? Or throwing interceptions.
This is correct. They don't know how to pass at the college level. The passes are not crisp and linger in the air for the defense to catch up with. The passes are always too late and too lazy. Its as if they are thinking about what they are doing and that is just not what basketball is when it is played at the highest levels.

Tubby uses a poor coaching style, very similar to Joe Hall. Do something wrong and you are sitting next to him. This leaves the players playing tentatively. I see too many times during the game the players looking at the bench when something doesnt go right to see if they are coming out.

I have absolutuely no problem holding players accountable for their actions on the court. Execution is what I have a problem with and passing is a big part of that. Too many of these guys get tentative and give the defense time to react to the pass.
Man do I miss the days of a crisp Eric Daniels pass to Hayes on the low block.

We pass the ball like little girls..there is no velocity on our passes..they are lobs and easy to pick off..we suck basically...

I'm glad this thread was here.
I absolutely agree. Our passing is HORRIBLE. Not only are the passes not crisp, or not timely, but they're also poorly aimed.
How many times has Crawford thrown a pass on the perimeter to an open Meeks or Bradley, but the catch has to be made in a position which makes the catch-and-shoot impossible?
Little things like that will win/lose ballgames.
Passes to an open Morris HAVE to be crisper, as well. Defenses don't want him to get open, so you can bet that if he DOES get open, it won't be for long. Take advantage of it.
I agree with lilproUK98. This is just one of many horrible things this season.

Also I would add, how many times have you seen the guys go and meet a pass that doesn't hit them right in the hands. Not too often. Something is very very wrong. Will this ship ever get righted ??? I sure hope so because this isn't fun anymore.

We don't have a point guard, period. Bradley has proven time and again that he cannot play the position effectively; his ball handling skills are not solid and he lacks the mentality. Jasper? He was highly ranked at the high school all star tournaments because nobody plays in-your-face defense at those events. He had a honeymoon period at the beginning of this season (he was very effective against UCLA) but by now, opposing coaches have picked up on how easy it is to neutralize him with man-to-man pressure from a quicker defender. As a result, we cannot get into our offense (or we are forced to do so 40 feet from the basket) and everything bogs down; and Jasper's confidence is so shaken that he does not give us anything in other phases of the game.

For some reason these players have yet to learn the bounce pass, something that goes back to the fundamentals of the game. I think we know how to pass, but don't know how to throw the RIGHT pass. This reminds me of our play down on the blocks too. I haven't seen our big men do any shot fakes or up and unders. It is becoming clearer by each game that we are poorly coached.

Passing has to exist in some form in ordered to be judged as horrible.

Just our passing is horrible? Our catching is horrible, our decision making in crunch time is the worst I've ever seen on a UK team, we have not idea how to take care of the ball.

As usual, good post. Again, YES, we do need Jai Lucas.

I remember one pass where Morris just hung a lazy side-line pass to the other McDonald AA Crawford and it got away.
One horrible pass was made to Sheray- when you and your teammate have no one between you, you throw a chest-pass not a dang bounce pass at the knees..sigh.

This is what has changed drastically under Tubby.
UK shouldnt NEED any individual players. Players should NEED Kentucky.

The passing too is something that goes to thelack of athleticism and forwards with hops.
Note that there are passes which can be made on the North Carolina team that are simply impossible or high risk this year at KY. Bradley is well built but not long limbed. Crawford same. Meeks and Jasper, good for their size. Thomas, Woo, Perry, all have short hops. It definitely narrows your target and ups your risk to try and pass to those guys.
This was one mentioned in one of the discussions earlier, that by shooting early and in transistion, you should in theory decrease turnovers and increase shots.

I was really begging for a nice bounce pass at my buddy's house when Morris made a beautiful, crisp, quick bounce-pass to Meeks in front of the rim. I thought by now someone would have mentioned it since the soft lobs are killing us.

The high/low lob passes to Morris improved vs. Georgia and weren't quite as soft. I think Stevenson has been fairly adept at it all season.
Another noticeable but slight improvement as I see it.

I saw this thread and thought I wanted to mention something else to add in. I think we all agree that the offense needs to go through Morris, the inside-out game would be ideal. I dont understand why we haven't used Woo more this year. He is very good at getting the ball to Morris. He also helps out because is a decent power forward.Someone mentioned in another thread, I think his skills have not been utilized. He isnt a great defender, use a zone when he is in there.
