View Full Version : Vanderbilt Fans Today

I know that I was pretty upset walking out of the arena today, but I witnessed some of the most juvenile behavior following the game. As I was leaving, there were multiple gatherings of students and elder fans who were attempting to verbally assault anyone who would listen. One fan approached me to say that "UK has to win a couple here and there for it to be a rivalry." I know that every fan base has their fair share of idiots, but when I have walked out of Rupp, it is usually cheering for our team, rather than pointing at the fans of the other and trying to badger them.
Two big thumbs down to the Vanderbilt following today. I expected more out of their people... just as I expect a lot from our fans.

You should have simply reminded them that the overall record between the two teams is something like 4,076-28 (exaggerating for effect of course), and they haven't begun to make it a rivalry.
Just a thought...

It was very tempting, but I did not want to give any of those bumbling idiots the time of day.

You should have been with me on that half mile walk back to my truck last week amidst a hord of Bama faithful (who by the way are now calling for Mark Gottfried's head).

His "head calling" is warranted.

Went to high school in Nashville in the 70's. Vandy fans were the biggest turds in the bowl then and they still are now. I used to always sit in Vandy section at SEC Tourney(a friend of family was old vandy alum who got us tics) They always rooted agianst the cats no matter who they were playing.

Try living here...you know how it is, Craig.
To borrow...and slightly alter...a phrase from Animal House's Dean Wormer, "Fat, drunk, rich and book smart (otherwise known as stupid) is no way to go through life." I hate Vandy fans.

My son barely made it to his car without fighting today. He was going to wait on the team, but said the taunting got so nasty he was about to take a couple Vandy fans out. I couldnt believe the things he said was shouted at him. Just stupid stuff. As usual with VU fans its all bark and no bite.
I have been here since 86 and missed my 1st UK/Vandy game today. We have had more than our fair share of run-ins with their fans. So many stories, so little time.

I guess winning produces jerks. I was there when Mohammed shot it off his hip for the win, and I've been there about 4 times total- usually the fans are rather good and Knoxville is worse.

I saw a gentleman with his daughter finally have to tell a group that if they did not shut up that he would be forced to kick their butts. It was comical because the guy was huge, and the group of about six walked off without saying another word.

I went out drinkin' in Athens after that loss and got more sympathy talk than smack. Even ran into some of the GA players on my way to the hotel and they were well behaved (as was their posse/groupies). The GA fans leaving Stegman didn't throw one verbal shot my way. I think they could tell all us Cat fans were feeling it that night.

I live just south of Nashville and have been to my fair share of Vandy/UK games over the past 27 years that I've been here. Never really had trouble with the fans, although the years I've been, we've always handled them fairly well. Have not been the past couple of years.
Guess years of frustration on their part comes out when it is obvious they have eclipsed us as a program. Sad to say that, but four losses in a row statistically is pretty significant.
Sad part is, our players I think are superior to theirs.

Four losses in a row is significant, but Vandy has not passed us as a program.

Never been toa game there. I was listening to the pregame show and Mike Pratt said when he played there the abuse was absolutely brutal. Fans spit on the players and called them names he didn't even know existed.
The only place as bad, according to Pratt, was Starkville.

If you think Vandy is bad you don't ever want to go to WVU, I have never felt so unsafe in America in all my life and I've been to the Bronx....They have no control over their fans there. The movie deliverance kept going through my head.

I have been there for a football game, and you are correct. They are scary to look at... their appearance gets in your head, and you psychologically are forced to play things on the safe side while in their presence.

You have to realize most of them want to grow up to be lawyers or doctors with bad bedside manners so you can see where it comes from.
It also comes from people who don't have a winning tradition and therefore can only live for the moment.

Living here in Nashville I would agree without a doubt that Vandy fans are among the worst. To here them tell it they own most of the SEC here in Memorial. However if we want to stop the taunting all we need to do is play with the same effort they did at the end of the game and not be anyones patsy!!!!
